ARTEMIS WOKE UP WITH A dreamy smile on her face due to the large arm wrapped around her face. her head was resting on steels bare chest, and it felt nice. he was an incredible guy.

she gently tried to remove his arm so she could use the restroom, but he groaned and tightened his arm around her.

"don't move, you're warm." he muttered out as he nuzzled his nose into her neck. she laughed out loud and wrapped her arms around his shoulders and kissed his cheek.

"i need to pee." she muttered and jumped off of him, he chuckled at her but let her go.

artemis did her business and scrubbed her teeth, because no one likes morning breath, before walking out to see steel sprawled out on her bed smiling at her. he looked so adorable, with his dimples popping out at her.

the young girl made a decision right then, she ran from the bathroom and jumped right onto steel before he could even move. steel groaned at the impact.

"what was that for?" he groaned at her and pulled her small body to straddle his. she placed her hands on his chest and grinned cheekily at him.

"because i felt like it." he laughed at her response before he decided he should get up and get ready for the day. artemis decided the same and got changed after he left and walked into the dining room. everyone was there, beside steel, and was already making conversation.

the conversation halted when she sat down, everyone's eyes went to her. "what?" she mumbled as she reached for breakfast, which johanna smacked her hand quickly causing artemis to yelp. "what was that for?"

"for being an idiot last night."

artemis scoffed and scarfed down her breakfast, avoiding the stares of everyone.

"you look like a pig." hunter told her with a small joking sneer.

"and you look like you want to get beat up."

"fair enough."

___

"ARTEMIS, WOOD." THE RINGING VOICE called out. she blinked a few times then got up from the cold metal bench and walked down the metal hallway, through the glass doors guarded by peacemakers. all the gamemakers were talking loudly amongst eachother, not paying any attention to her. which she didn't mind much, she had a plan.

slowly, gamemakers started watching her every movement. watching how she grabbed a rope and made a few simple knots, a little too simple. then she made a few small snares and walked out of the room. basic things that everyone should know.

gamemaker seneca crane watched with pursed lips, she definitely wasn't as good as he thought she would be.

___

"raquelle lynde, with a score of..." the whole penthouse watched the tv with anticipation. "nine!"

artemis felt a bang in her chest, the pretty girl might be a bit hard to kill after all.

"lawson ridge, ten!"

"well shoot steel, you don't have much to compete with there." hunter commented with popcorn stuffed in his face. steel only frowned.

"catherine hadley, nine!"

"donny fold, eight!"

"...lilia jordan with a score of..." the whole penthouse turned to look at artemis, noting how she was watching extremely close to the screen. "nine!"

artemis frowned at the score, she knew she had to kill the girl. lilia had this innocent look to her on the screen, she would certainly gain sponsors. maybe even a few admirers. though, not as many as raquelle would get.

  "river jones, ten!"

"they must be making some prodigies down there in four, huh?" johanna scoffed under her breath and folded her arms.

"or having illegal schooling like down in one." hunter muttered back.

"and two! don't forget two." zella exclaimed with an unusual pep in her voice that didn't match the phrase.

"artemis wood," all eyes returned to the screen. artemis looked pissed in her picture, her arms folded and a small purse to her lips matched the fire ablaze in her eyes. caesar flickerman looked down at the paper and shook his head, slightly in disgust. "with a score of... two."

the penthouse became quiet as everyone looked at artemis, who was good at hiding the small smirk she wanted to hold. to anyone else, she looked even a little surprised. but artemis knew on the inside, that was what she wanted.

"well that was unexpected." hunter laughed and threw a piece of popcorn at artemis. "you suck, arty."

"don't call me that." she scoffed. steel smiled at her empathetically and patted her back slightly, not sure what to do.

"steel mathig, with a score of ten!" everything was a blur after that, it was hard to know what was happening as artemis continued watching the screen while everyone around her congratulated steel.

artemis watched as one of the last names was called.

"maverick joness, with a score of eleven."
