Several hours later as my boss is getting ready to go down to the restaurant attached to the motel for dinner he asks me if I'm going to join him. Despite my hunger, I declined his offer. There were pressing matters that required my attention more than I cared about food at that moment. After being unsuccessful at changing my mind he finally accepts my answer and leaves with strict instructions to be back in the room no later than ten or I will get locked out. Naturally, I agree to his terms and head out the door shortly after him.
The place we are staying is so far in the center of this crowded town that the closest escape point is several blocks away. I make a beeline for the breathing room just to unwind long enough to formulate some sort of game plan. With the adoption papers in my pocket I have secured her safety for the time being. However, I’m not sure how much longer that will last or even if Carol will try to override them in any way when I do go to claim her. That still leaves her health hanging in the balance too. Her physical appearance may seem as if she's on the right track but looks can be deceiving.
Continuing down the pathways towards my destination I can't help but wish that Phoenix had given me a number or at least a time and place to meet with him. As helpful as he was for giving me the name they hid her under, it still left a ton of questions unanswered and I really need him right now. Sadly, I don’t think I will get a chance to talk with him so I did the next best thing, I dialed Justice’s phone number instead.
There’s one thing I've learned about these two and that is no matter how much distance they put between each other, they still communicate. The kind of relationship I wouldn't mind having with my own brother one day. Several rings go by unanswered and I start to worry that I may have left a little too soon. As I snap my phone closed and slip it back into my pocket a car pulls alongside of the street I’m walking down. The drive tells me to get in. The instant recognition of the voice prompted me and without hesitation I do as I’m told.
I turn to the driver as I ask, “Why are you following me?”
“What gives you that idea?”
“Gee, I don't know. Maybe the simple fact that I just tried calling you and rather than answering, you’re here picking me up. By the way where are we going?”
“It seems that Caleb wants a little chat with you. Privately.” he seethes at me.
It's never a good thing when Justice is angry about something but he's never usually this offended when it comes to his own brother. I almost wonder what Phoenix had said to him that irritated him so much. I figure it’s probably best not to rock the boat with him right now and just enjoy the ride.
A short while later he pulls off to the side of the road near a deserted ocean picnic area and tells me to get out. At first I’m puzzled but then as I’m about to ask why, he yells at me to get out. I open the door and obey still wondering why he’s brought me to a place in what appears to be the middle of nowhere. As I shut the car door the tires kick up sand, spraying me with it as he speeds off down the road.
After watching the taillights fade into the distance I turn around and glance at my watch. I still had plenty of time before ten so I walked over by the picnic table. The closer I get to the table the more I sense a humming sensation. I pause, raising my hands up a little with my palms towards the ground trying to distinguish which direction it's coming from but it seems as if it's all around me. I walk a little further in one step at a time with my hands out like feelers trying to locate the source of this energy surge around me.
Although every energy source is molded from the same basic framework, each one leaves behind a specific vibration that is unique to a single user. The chemical reaction that happens inside the body to this energy, shifts it slightly in one direction or another causing the original pattern to differentiate from its structure. We generally refer to this as an energy signature or a vibration code. The only time there's a noticeable change in this unique sequence would be if the host themselves absorbs others energy. Once the energies are released back into the atmosphere they become trapped in the air particles floating around. The stronger the vibrations are, the more energy has been released in that specific place or spot otherwise as known as a surge.
