Breyanna sat unrestful in her hospital bed the next day. Since Gemma's threat last night, she'd had trouble sleeping and was now feeling completely on edge. And when Breyanna was feeling on edge, she usually found herself in the midst of bender. So, even though she was ready to climb the walls to escape this place, she was grateful to still be in here. It kept her from doing the worst to herself. It's what she felt she deserved for what she did to her son.
It wasn't that Gemma's threat scared her, of course it did. But that wasn't the full reason Breyanna was feeling on edge. She was feeling on edge because she knew that Gemma was right to feel the way she did. Because of her actions, Breyanna nearly killed her own flesh and blood. Maybe Abel would be better without her in his life. Maybe she didn't deserve to be a mother.
Breyanna swallowed thickly, feeling two tears slip down her cheeks. How did her life get to be so fucked up?
The door to Breyanna's room was opened and relief sat in the pit of her stomach when she saw that it was Jax making his way inside. She was also surprised to see that he had a glass vase filled with a bouquet of lilac chrysanthemums; her favorite flowers.
"I was starting to think you'd completely written me off." Breyanna said, trying to straightened herself up in the bed.
Jax sat the flowers on the rollaway table, where Breyanna's uneaten breakfast sat. "Everything in me is telling me that I need to, but for some reason I can't."
For the first time in days, a small smile graced Breyanna's face. "Flowers? I didn't know you even remembered."
"Steel trap, babe." Jax returned the smile, tapping his temple. "How're you feeling?"
"Honestly, I'm going out of my fucking mind." Breyanna sighed heavily, feeling ashamed.
Jax released a deep breath, sitting next to Breyanna on the bed. He then reached out to grab her left hand, his fingers ghosting over the spot where he'd given her his ring that was now empty. They had a deep, complicated history, but he would be lying if he said he still didn't feeling something for Breyanna.
"I saw the kid right before I came here." Jax told Breyanna, still holding onto her hand.
Breyanna looked up at the father of her son, nerves bubbling in the pit of her stomach. "How is he?"
"He's getting better, moving around a lot more." He spoke proudly.
Again, relief washed through Breyanna. "Did the doctors say anything about any permanent damage? Like brain or anything—you know, 'cause of the drugs?"
"They don't nothing for sure. But it looks like the kid will make a full recovery."
Another set of tears fall down Breyanna's cheeks. "He's gonna make it?" She whispered softly.
