Breyanna struggled to breathe, as she waited as patiently as she could in the unfamiliar office. Today, she would be meeting her assigned sponsor and getting the keys to her new living space for the next 6 months.
Breyanna was more determined than ever to get her life back. For Abel. For Jax. But mostly for herself.
Just as she ran a sweaty hand down her jean clad thigh, the door to the office finally opened. Breyanna nervously stood to her feet, watching a guy she had never seen before in her life, casually make his way inside. He was around 6', olive toned skin, and very handsome. His hair sat perfectly coiled on his head, as the dark beard surrounding his strong jawline had been neatly trimmed.
"Hi, you must be Breyanna." The gentleman spoke, gesturing his open palm toward her.
"Yes, I am." Breyanna answered, as she reached to shake his hand. She could feel the heat rise in her cheeks at the feel of his large hand holding onto her smaller one.
"Well, it's very nice to meet you, Breyanna," he gave her a warm smile, "I'm Liam Tanner, your counselor and NAA sponsor." He continued before gesturing for them to both sit. "So, first off, I want to ask, how many days are you today?"
Breyanna adjusted herself in her seat, crossing her right leg over her left. "About 2 ½ months now." She answered, feeling proud of herself.
Two months may have seemed minuscule to any other person, but to an addict, every second sober was something to definitely be proud of.
"Well, congratulations." Liam's deep voice replied, as his hazel eyes gleamed. "Every day of fighting your addictions is always an achievement. You should be very proud of yourself."
Breyanna could only nod in response.
"So," Liam began, again, clearing his throat, "I know that this is going to be hard for you. Is this your first time doing sober-living?"
Breyanna shook her head in shame. "Unfortunately, no. I've done this song and dance twice before."
Liam nodded, quickly jotting down some notes. Breyanna wanted to know what he was writing, but didn't have the courage to ask. "You've done this twice before, and it didn't work. Why now?"
Breyanna wasn't prepared for that question, so she was a bit taken aback. "Uh," she cleared her throat, "my son."
Liam looked at her with wide eyes. He quickly glanced down at her left hand, not seeing a ring there. "You have a son?"
