Before we left, each of the contestants placed a bet . I just took a piece of paper and tought about what to write. I had written Ben, Nathalia and John, but erased all that, before finally placing my ticket in. It read Karma.

After the call i just returned to my room and slept until we were to be called again. I just assumed that my watch would ring again. And it did.

I rushed to the hallways and saw all the other contestants being led by guardians

"Oh, so you woke up" my guardian said

"Yeah, i did"

"I should have woken you up minutes ago. But i didn't want to disturb you. You'll get enough sleep deprivation in the Games"

"Oh, well, thanks...i guess"

"You're welcome. Now let's go. We're already late"

We got moving down the hallway, following the other contestants. I tried to look for Joe, but i didn't see him. I looked all the way to the arena, I saw most the other contestants, but not him.

We entered the arena and all contestants lined up before the Governor made a short announcement. That Joe and Shaiene died last night. They said it was an accident, but who would believe them!? He was in the resistance, they're the government. They probably shot them cold-blooded. And he also wished us good luck or some shit like that. I don't really care

Then we lined up , each contestant at a door of the arena, leading God knows where.

The doors slowly started to open . I closed my eyes and took a deep breath

After i was done counting i opened my eyes. The doors had fully opened by now , revealing a small field, containing an old building in ruins, surrounded by a huge forest and mountains. At least now i knew where we were. Those mountains were the Balcans and these grounds used to be Greece or Bulgaria

A loud alarm was heard and all contestants took off running. I immediately targeted the forest

Gunshots were heard and a loud voice announced

"Jack, Andrew, Kim. Dead."

Amazing. Thirty seconds in the games and we were already down to twenty. Half of us probably won't make it to the night . And, oh , how much i was praying i would be in the other half

I was about 10 feet away from the forest when a knife flew right by my face and hit the guy in front of me in the back

I stopped for a few seconds, just enough for Nathalia to jump on me and put her hands around my neck. I struggled to move but i couldn't , and i had a few seconds before i would be out of breath. I tried kicking her off with my feet, but she was way too solid compared to me.

I heard the battle sounds around me and thought I'd be the next victim of today's bloodbath. Gunshots. Arrows flying. Knives. Punches and kicks. WAIT. Knives. I had one

With my last breath i pulled the knife out of my pocket and hit. I didn't know where the knife had hit her, but it was enough for her to fall on the ground.

I took a deep breath, hovered over her and stuck the knife in again. I watched the life drain from her body, as we were the last oned in the field.

I had just killed a person. Who intended to kill me, true. But a person. An innocent human being. A member of the resistance. I hadn't personally known her, but she was one of us. She was family

"Dead- 13. Living-12" the voice announced

Great, a few minutes in , and over half of us were dead. At least the outsiders won't kill anyone tonight...

I ran to the forest and found a river. Figuring everyone was tired and would stay put for at least an hour or so, i settled by the river and cleaned all the blood i had on, then took out a sandwich and ate it.

As the sun was setting, i heard footstept behind me. I sensed it would only be one person, so i took my knife out and prepared to fight. A little boy came here running. He couldn't be older than 11. 11 and already in the resistance. I didn't know his name, probably because he wasn't very noticeable

When he saw me he stoped running

"Please don't kill me" he whispered

I lowered my knife

"I won't."

I paused a little and put my weapon back in the pocket, but still holding it, just in case someone else was coming

"what's your name?"

"Jim"

"Hi Jim. I'm Zoe"

I put my hand in front of me and he shook it

"Hi Zoe"

He was so young and innocent. I didn't even know why they would capture him.

I took a deep breath before finally saying

"Listen up, little man. You're with me now. I'll protect you. You'll listen to me. Get it?"

"Yeah"

"Good.Now sit down and..."

I stopped him with my hand

"Wait. I think i hear something"

I felt the earth move. Looked away and i saw trees falling, closer and closer to us

Three deaths in the past hour  the voice announced

"RUN" i yelled at the top of my lungs, as we both took off in the other direction

I ran through the forest, to the field, stepping on leaves and branches, stumbling on some but i got back up. I heard screams from far away and tried to ignore them. I should be happy when they die, right? It means i have more chances to live. But i couldn't ignore them. I couldn't be happy

"HELP"

Jim screamed. I turned around and saw him fallen into a crevice the earthquake made.

"Hold on little guy"

I ran towards him, almost bumping in four trees on my way. When i got there i tried to think of a way to hold on, but ended up laying down and trying to catch him. He had fallen and was now only holding onto a branch

"Grab my hand" i shouted at him

He lifted his hand up, but it wasn't long enough to catch mine. I reached my hand a little lower and he almost caught it, but then the earthquake hit again. Another wave, faster and stronger than the previous one. Jim slipped off into the crevice

"JIM!!!! NO!"

I yelled after him, but he was long gone. I just stood there , crying after the little guy that had just died. I should've been the one in the crevice. I should've been the one dead. This was cruel. And it had to be stopped

The earthquake hit again, and it got me moving, running away and out of the forest. I ran through the field and into the building, which seemed to be the only place not affected by this

Once i got inside, everything was dark, but i could sense movement. I was not alone here. There were at least two or three other people in there with me

But, before i got the chance to lift a leg, the floor crashed. I collapsed on the floor of a very high yellow (!?!?) room and i looked around

Me.

Ben.

Kim.

Liam.

Amira,

We were the only ones in the room and we looked around. All confused. All unarmed, as a screen appeared on one of the room's walls and displayed :

The ones left- Stage two.
