Chapter 5 (Confidence)

Papyrus's POV

I am about 10 and a half years old and have some anxiety issues especially around new people. My brother Sans tries his best to help me and keep me as happy and confident in myself as possible. I also train with Undyne to help with my confidence. I'm pretty sure Sans set that up considering I want to be in the Royal Guard at some point... but really do enjoy it!

Now though, it was something totally new. A human. I am honestly quite anxious right now and don't know what to do. My brother says that I should talk to it... but do I really want to? I mean I do but... I don't know... I'm kinda scared. What if the human doesn't like me? Or thinks I'm a useless nobody? Or will the human be scared of me? I-I don't know I'm scared to think of the possibilities of what could go wrong...

"Hey? Bro you there?" Hearing that voice instantly knocked me out of my thoughts.

"y-YEAH! I-I'm here!" I responded to my brother.

"Good. Now don't worry what will go wrong, k?" Kneeling down on one knee Sans continued. "Trust me ok? Nothing will happen. I'm sure the kid will be happy to meet you!" He put a half gloved hand on my shoulder. "Besides I'll be right here if you need me ok? So don't worry! Just go ahead and talk to the kid k?" Ending his small speech with a hug. I proceeded to nod as Sans then stood up and let me go talk to the human. 

I walked over to the human Sans in the background ready to be there to help me out. That's probably the reason why he made so many bad puns, to help cover me up if I make a mistake or my anxiety is troubling me. Honestly though, it works pretty well! As soon as he starts he usually gets laughs or complaints from the people around him so that usually distracts them and gives me relief. Even though I really do hate admitting that, it does help. I just wish he wouldn't carry the habit everywhere he goes even when it's just us.

"h-hi human!" I said fidgeting with my fingers nervously. The human gave a small smile in return. "I-I Am tHe G-GREAT P-PAPYRUS!" I said with more enthusiasm. 

I could see from the corner of my eye socket Sans, nodding in approval with a more genuine smile, and so I took that as a sign for me to keep going. "A-AND YOU H-HUMAN! I-I WILL C-CAPTURE YOU! B-BUT FIRST! Y-YOU MUST GET THROUGH MY EPIC PUZZLES! NYEH! HE! HE!" I said excitedly, as the human seemed nice and willing to give me a chance. So I proceeded to run ahead not being able to wait for the human to try and solve my puzzles.
