(before you clog up the comments, yes, this is technically a spoiler for Dragonslayer, and no, I couldn't help myself but call this chapter that)
Emma was glad they were getting away from the PlasmaWings. The Doctor seemed to like them quite a lot; he didn't seem to notice any of the orange dragon's menacing glares at all.
But they were far behind them now; Emma was really starting to get very excited about the entire situation. Dragons, Doctors, and an alien guinea pig who surprisingly hadn't been eaten yet. Overall a great day.
So when the TARDIS materialized on a mountainside in the middle of a very cold nowhere, Emma didn't even mind. And lucky for her, nor did the Doctor.
"Look at this!" he exclaimed. "This is amazing, don't you agree?"
"Yes," Emma admitted, grinning as well. Suddenly there was a blur of light orange overhead.
"Dragon!" Emma yelled, but she wasn't scared. "My first dragon!"
"Not my first, but I will admit I don't see them on a daily basis," the Doctor laughed.
Suddenly the dragon stopped, hovering in midair.
"Oh my gosh-" Emma breathed, watching as it swooped down to land on the cliff beside them. "It's Sky and Wren!"
In fact it was. Wren looked at Emma with an expression she couldn't decipher. Emma only had excitement and perhaps a little bit of longing.
"Who are you?" Wren asked. "I only stop for special things; two humans standing on a cliffside yelling my name with a large blue box seemed like a good reason to. How did you get it all the way up here?"
"I'm the Doctor, and this is Emma," the Doctor smiled. "The blue box is... well, it's quite a long story, maybe I'll tell you sometime. And who might you be?"
"Wren," Wren replied, glancing back at Sky wearily. He made a face.
"And this is Sky, right?" Emma pointed to the small dragon, who was still many times larger than any of them.
"...yes," Wren looked startled, and Emma had a feeling she had blown it.
"Well, Wren and Sky, quite nice to meet you!" the Doctor smiled again, and Emma made a face at him, then pointedly noted to herself to steal his fez next time she had the chance.
"She makes faces, too, Wren!" Sky said. Emma inwardly thanked the TARDIS for translating dragon, though she wondered why it didn't do the same for guinea pigs. Speaking of which, Humphrey was balanced precariously on her head, and when he began to teeter and Emma steadied him, Sky let loose a squeal of delight. Humphrey, finding himself caught between a girl he knew and a dragon he didn't, snuggled closer into Emma's hair.
"He so cute!" Sky exclaimed, turning to Wren. "May I hold him?" Humphrey squeaked in protest as Emma lifted him from her head to show the SkyWing.
"Sky wants to hold him," Wren translated, though she didn't need to. Not like Wren knew that.
"He's a guinea pig," Emma explained. "You can keep them as pets."
"Oh, my! Wren, can we get one?" Sky pleaded. "Please, please, please? Please?"
"No," Wren rolled her eyes. She then turned her attention to the Doctor. "I'd like to hear what you've got to say."
"Can you ask him to try to make it quick, though?" Sky asked Wren, glancing at the darkened sky. "I really, really want to show you the thing that I found. Ooh, I bet we could get a guinea pig there!" that seemed to make him even more excited, and he nearly dropped a very disgruntled Humphrey, who hissed at him in alarm.
