We sat together under a tree, munching on apples and ham sandwiches.

"Sorry I didn't bring much. I was to busy thinking of spending the day with you."

I smiled, looking down at the ground closing my eyes.

"Can I ask you something?" He asked, his voice shaky, serious.

I looked up, his brown eyes already on me, locking on my own eyes on his.

"Yes,"I mumbled.

"What do you want?"

"What do you mean?" I tried to laugh but his face stayed the same, pleading me with his eyes.

"What do you want to do with your life?"

I sat back, leaning my back against the tree, looking out towards the lake. The sun was not high in the sky anymore, now making its way down but not close enough to sunset.

"To run, leave, get away from this place." I said, keeping my eyes on the twinkling water.

"Oh," was all he said.

"What about you?" I asked.

"Thought I'd join the military, maybe. After that I don't know. Family maybe."

"You seem.. Unsure?"

"Im---..." He trailed off, looking away.

I started to grab his hand but I fought the urge. I hardly knew this guy.

"Scared??" I

He looked up quickly, as if id just read his mind. But in a strange way I had, I knew his pain. It was nothing new...

"Yea, I like the fact of helping my country but I don't want to die."

"Who does?" I asked looking back into his eyes. That's when I realized how different him and I were.

He had dark brown eyes, I had piercing blue eyes that sometimes could be mistaken for green. His complection was dark and warm. Mine was warm but lighter, not as tan but not pale. His short black hair brought out his facial features. As for my dirty blonde hair, that hung down over my shoulders, brought out my personality. He had freckles covering his face, but not a lot, as for me...I didn't have a single freckle on my face. The only physical thing we shared was a single dimple. Mine on my right cheek, his more to the corner of his mouth.

We were so different, yet we were so alike. Wanting the same things, agreeing on almost everything.

I didn't realize how tired I'd gotten until I found myself yawning and leaning on his shoulder for support. I also hadn't realized the sun had sunk down in the sky.

The sky was outlined in pinks, purples, deep reds, yellows, and oranges. The water, swaying back and forth, had a bright diamond on every tip that bobbed up to the surface.

I closed my eyes and leaned more into his shoulder, not realizing my tiredness.

He slipped his arm behind my back and sat there with me, doing exactly what I wanted. Nothing. How could nothing be so perfect?
