Poem #45

It was the big dance of the year
And I didn't have a date
I thought I didn't need one
But then I was too late.

Couples dance around me
Everywhere I look
I didn't have a date
So a seat I took.

A little bit I sat there
Hoping that there might be a chance
Of a guy that would politely ask
If I would like to dance.

Time flew by
And I grew tired
While couples danced
Completely wired.

The whole dance I spent alone
With no one else to talk to
And I enjoy myself I guess
But just plain old me won't do.
