I sat at my desk in my room reading a book I checked out yesterday from the library. I was very distracted reading my book that I didn't notice my brother yell triumphantly downstairs. I rolled my eyes and continued reading the book, until my brother bursted through my door with a smile plastered on his face.

"[Name]! I won the boss battle! I finally beat the game!" I sighed, "Nice work Kevin. Now let me read my book." I turned away from Kevin and continued reading the book.

Kevin scoffed and crossed his arms, "Why are you always reading books? Videogames are WAY better than books." Kevin stated emphasizing the word 'way'.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever." I waved him off and proceeded reading my book.

"Okay, whatever, I'll call Matt. See ya." Kevin left my room and headed downstairs.

Kevin was my little brother, being two years younger than me. He was a game fanatic, he loved playing video games and hanging out with his friends. I was the opposite of him. I loved reading books and I guess you could call me a loner or nerd. Video games never interested me, but Kevin and I still get along very well. Kevin and I love each other even though we are the complete opposite of one another, we've never been closer since the death of our parents.

I sighed, as I reread the paragraph for the second time. Thinking about my parents always distract me. My parents died in a car accident years ago. Now Kevin and I have to stay with my uncle Buck. Uncle Buck is my alcoholic uncle, he leaves on the weekdays and returns on the weekends really drunk. Since uncle Buck doesn't take care of us, I am forced to take care of both Kevin and I.

I groaned and decided to have a break from the book for now. I stood up and walked out of my room towards the kitchen to get a drink. I made my way downstairs and saw my brother in the middle of the the living room looking at me with a small smile on his face.

"Hey [Name], Matt invited me over to his house for the weekend. Is it okay if I go?" I smiled, "Sure, as long as you behave there." Kevin hugged me, "Thanks [Name]. I'll see you on Monday. Bye!" He had already left the house when he told me bye. He knew where Matt's house was and it was quite close to ours, so it wouldn't be a problem. Matt was his best friend. Kevin usually left the weekends to spend his time with Matt. I smiled and continued walking toward the kitchen.

When I entered the kitchen, I grabbed a glass from the cupboard and filled it with ice and water. I always loved my drink with ice, no matter what the climate is. I hate it when my drink's warm so I always put ice in the glass so it's cold and refreshing.

As I was drinking, I heard a slam from the front door and some heavy footsteps. I cut my attention off it already knowing who it was, getting ready to leave to my room as fast as possible. The familiar figure entered the kitchen and sat on the table with a bottle containing a golden liquid inside of it in his hand. I was getting ready to leave and go to my room until someone called behind me.

"Where ye goin'?" Uncle Buck questioned me. I didn't even bother looking at him, "My room." I walked to my room quickly, hearing a grunt behind me.

I entered my room and closed the door, leaning against it. I sighed, well, I guess uncle Buck's back. I never liked him. He always ignored us and couldn't really care less about Kevin and I. If people knew he didn't take care of us, we would be sent to another family, but that would just make it harder for us, so we decided to take care of each other so nobody suspected anything.

I plopped myself on the bed face first and groaned into the covers. I was extremely bored and I didn't feel like reading the book. I guess I could just take a small nap, that always calmed me down when I was stressed or bored. I rolled on my bed so I was now facing the ceiling with my back on the bed and closed my eyes as I slowly drifted into a deep slumber.

I woke up by a crashing noise that seemed to be from the living room. I rubbed my eyes and grabbed my phone to see what time it was. '10:37 p.m.' It read. There was no way uncle Buck could be up at this time. He probably passed out and knocked a vase or something. I pulled my legs out of my bed and onto the furry carpet and put my slippers on to see what he knocked out.

I walked out of my room and down the stairs to see everything in its place. 'Weird', I thought, uncle Buck was nowhere to be seen. I decided to investigate a little more and see what caused the noise that woke me up in the middle of the night. I began to look around and my eyes locked with the TV my brother played games in. I didn't know what I was looking at, I just kept staring at it until a little chat box that seemed from a video game popped on the screen.

'You shouldn't have done that...'

What? Done what?

Confused, I narrowed my eyes at the screen until I saw something that made my blood turn ice cold.

"You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you [Name]?"
