Chapter 8: Roomies!
All of the Gryffindors followed the head boy/girl up to our dorms, I was TRYING to memorize the way to the dorms, but the trio was goofing off, and I couldn't help but join in, and before we knew it. We were deserted on a moving staircase. GREAT! I had realized this after we stood in front of this moving picture of a fat lady whom was trying to get our attention for five minutes, I was semi-freaked out because I didn't know were the dorms were, or the password. Just flipping dandy.
I nudged George in the ribs, causing him to hit Fred, and Fred to hit Lee, and then said getting louder and more panicked with each word, " Do any of you geniuses know where the dorm is?! Because we are kind of lost!" Only then did they stop laughing, talking, or joking. The realization dawned on their faces as if they hadn't realized that we were standing in one place and talking for who knows how long. We all stood there silently for a minute until I heard footsteps that didn't belong to Professor McGonagall, they sounded heavier, and their footsteps didn't click like hers when she walked in her high heels, so out of curiosity I looked in the direction of the footsteps only to see a man with a hooked nose and greasy black hair,he was intimidating and he looked like he wanted to get the first people he saw in trouble, and sadly, that was us.
He looked at me smugly then sneered "Are you four causing trouble? If so, I'd expect that from a Black, but from a Weasley, never." He also said the last bit sarcastically, and in my opinion, rudely, I realized that silence might be rude.
So I said quietly and politely, "Sorry sir, but we got caught on a moving staircase and seemed to have lost the way to our common room. If you could be kind enough to point us to the Gryffindor common room?" I didn't know why, but the three guys were shocked I said anything to greasy.
"That's what I've been trying to tell you!" Someone exclaimed in a singsong voice. All of us turned around the large woman in the portrait was beat-red from anger.
"Sorry ma'am I'm not used to talking to portraits," I said shyly as I looked up at her, she really was a beautiful painting, so I didn't understand why the boys laughed at her, I leant (leaned?) closer to her and whispered " if you're the entrance to our common room, please excuse the three dweebs," I said jokingly. She laughed at this comment and lost all traces of anger on her face.
"Well, I'll let you four in, but only once, password or no password." She said cheerfully as she swung open to reveal a worried Percy Weasley talking with an even more worried Professor McGonagall, they both paused mid-conversation and ran, almost flew over to the portrait hole, both saying how worried they were about the four of us... If only they stayed that way, upon finding out that we got lost while goofing around, the four of us got quite an earful, then we were sent to our dorms to go to bed.
As I got into my dorm, I saw that there were two other girls in there, braiding each other's hair, and because they were on the beds farthest from the window, I got the bed by the window where I could be woken up by the sun, draw various pictures of the grounds throughout the year, or just read a good book... 'Who am I kidding? I don't like reading!' The girls turned around to look at me, one looked horrified, and the other looked indifferent and rolled her eyes.
"You don't like READING?!" She yelled at me like it was a crime. I turned around and blushed,
"Sorry, I have got to learn how to think without talking, it's like my mouth doesn't have a filter sometimes..." I trailed off bashfully. "It isn't that I hate reading, I just don't enjoy it, because I was constantly cooped up where I used to live, but rather than read about a place, I'd rather go there and see it." I finished. The two looked at me expectantly while all I did was stand there, and after a reasonable pause, I walked to my bed and proceeded to unpack my belongings .
"Well? Where did you live?" The girl who, now that I looked had "nerd" glasses asked
"I-I ummm don't like to talk about it." I stated plainly, they looked like twins standing side by side with semi-pouty faces and you'd think that I would cave in and reveal my whole life's story to the two complete strangers, but I didn't. Instead I walked towards the window and looked at the beautiful grounds silently, and after a few minutes of begging and pestering, I think they realized that I didn't want to talk about it, nor would I tell them until I felt the need to do so.
