"I'm sorry Addy," Spencer stood awkwardly in front of Adeline as she stood like a toddler in front of him, tears streaming down her face. He didn't know exactly how to comfort her in this exact moment. She placed her palms on his chest and pushed lightly, causing him to wobble backwards,"Sorry!? You didn't even tell me you planned on leaving again so early.." She sniffled and wiped the tears from her neck with the sleeve of her sweater. "I didn't plan it Ads-" She cut him off, "You had to have known they were going to offer you a job."
He did know, the head agent practically promised him a spot on the team right then and there. But instead of making things worse, Spencer just looked at her with caring eyes. "No. Don't go doing that dorky puppy-dog look with me. What did you think was going to happen Spencer? I was going to move to Virginia with you? Clearly I can't." She glanced around the trashy apartment she had to call home, considering her current predicament. "You're leaving when I need you most." Tears streamed down her face. Her stomach churned and she felt like she was going to throw up, an instant reflex to confrontation for her.
Spencer's heart shattered into a million pieces seeing her this way. He knew that this job is what he wanted, and it was best for him. Even if it meant leaving her behind. "We can try to work it out..." He trailed off, and she gave him a dirty look, "No we can't. You're smart enough to know that much." She snapped. "So thats it?" He asked. "That's it." She stormed off into the bathroom and slammed the door, waiting for him to leave.
With swelled eyes and a throat scratched raw from screaming, Adeline rose her head off the dirt floor of the unfamiliar room she was in. She glanced around at the cement walls and the tiny window that let in white blinding light into the darkness. She's still in hell, she thought to herself.
Raising herself up off the ground wasn't really an option because she only had about three feet of head space above her. When the man first threw her in here, she had came to the conclusion it was a crawl space. Clearly not one that was used for storage, one that was used for keeping her chained up in. He was planning this for a while.
Adeline shivered in the cold, dark space and wrapped her arms around herself to attempt to stay warm. The only good thing about the man taking her out of here is the warmth of the other room.
The sound proof board that covered the entrance of the crawl space swung open, and she attempted to use her weak arms to push herself into the darkest corner of the space. Once the board was out of the way she was immediately blinded by the light bulb that he clicked on. "Come here sweetheart." His deep voice echoed. The chains that were attached to her ankles were connected to a metal ring right at the entrance. So when she didn't come, he made her.
He gripped the chain with his large calloused hands and slowly started to drag her. Adeline cried out in pain and pulled back on the chains, to attempt to give the metal cuffs some slack. He laughed mockingly and pulled her up until her face met the ski mask. "When I tell you to come here, make it easier on yourself." He gestured towards her now bloody ankles. Not only was she scared, upset, and hopeless, she way beyond pissed. A new type of anger had been boiling inside her since the second he laid his hands on her.
Adeline looked into his eyes, those strangely familiar eyes, and said, "I'm going to be the reason you die."
The man stayed quiet for a moment, then slapped her across her face. She brought her hands up to coddle her now injured cheek bone, as he brought his mouth up to her ear, "You wish." He unlocked the cuffs and ripped her out of the crawl space. She screamed and kicked, but clearly the house was empty. No one could hear her.
After slamming her down onto a springy mattress that laid on concrete floor, a basement floor, she concluded, he started undoing his pants.
She scratched at his throat and grabbed the mask, an attempt to take it off and he grabbed both of her small wrists with one hand. Tears that Adeline didn't even know existed anymore started to pour out of her eyes. "Please don't." She whimpered, her voice raspy. He chuckled at her plead and continued to violate her.
Like she had died and went to another place, she felt nothing. Adeline chose to not experience what was happening. She shut her eyes and thought about what Spencer was doing right now. Was he trying to find her? Maybe he didn't care anymore. He did leave her for a job. What's to say that he's not too busy with other cases and she's just not of importance to the FBI?
Finally the man had finished, and was pulling his pants up. He slid her sweat shorts back over her hips. Adeline wondered why he did that. After doing such a terrible thing to her why give her the decency of remaining clothed? It didn't make any sense.
The man leaned up against her and whispered to her, "Where's Spencer now?"
Instead of crying, or getting mad, or giving up, Adeline looked at him with confusion.
Why would he say that?
