「 chapter two. 」
HER THROAT BURNS AS she drowns her sixth shot of the night, the taste of wood stings her tongue though the cheering crowd forces her to ignore it and keep going until they were all drank. Their shouts were enough to pop her ears, the jumping and light claps on her shoulders and arms could make the ground tremble. Her skin tingles with each touch, her cheek hurting from smiling at the victorious faces of her peers. Renee slacked her last cup on the soaked wooden table, losing her footing arms caught her waist before she tripped.
"You're finished!" Matt shouted his voice laced with bliss, his chin bumped into her head as he lifted her off the ground briefly, Renee threw her head and arms back laughing at the people congratulating. The girl she beat, pursed her lips fighting off a grin when people began cheering her as well. The lights around her were bright and warmed, faces blurring together as they reached out to congratulate her. "You won, Nessie!"
"I won!" She cheered, her hands holding Matt's cheeks and brought him close, her nose wrinkling in content. She blocked out the world, focusing on the good in front of her. It feel like pure bliss, ignoring the bad and focusing on the good. This right now feel good. "And I was so close to ditching."
They pull from each other, his arm draped around her shoulder slipping past the crowd, hands pushing them out spilling alcohol on their hair and clothes.
"Yeah, that was crazy." Matt agreed, his head bopping leading her towards the bonfire, shooting smiles at those he knew. "Who knew someone so small could drink that much."
Renee laughed, their knees graze on the rough log and the fire burns bright, warming her up. "There's a lot about me you don't know about."
Matt stared at her challenging, his head leaning close to her and falls on her forehead, her grin widen flinching slightly. "Like what?" He smells so nice, giggles bubble out of her throat, her nose touches his. Her heart beat pumps in her ears, her hand slides up his heated neck brushing his hair to avoid staring at his lips. She wants to though. Whatever bad thing that can from this, she could deal with it later. His eyes are so pretty. His finger brushes the corner of her lip, she fights back a shuddering breath, wondering, why he stopped? Did she mention how good he smells already?
"This is so not happening." Her body was yanked from log and onto her feet. Matt's body stumbled almost hitting the log. "Neither of you are sober. Renee, I need you!"
"Bye, Matt!" She waves, her grin wide. He returns it, matching her bright expression. Caroline stops on the bridge over the water and hands her a cup. Her head tilts, "What this? Why are you drinking tonight?"
"That's water, I need you sober for just one second." Caroline prompted, lifting the cup to her chapped lips. Renee drowns the crisp cold beverage in a few gulps, her body aching for more. "I'm drinking tonight because I'm going to ask Stefan out."
