chapter eight.

A night dedicated to the girls, and girls only has been long overdue for the four friends.

Elena hands Renee plates and she places them on the counter, and Caroline takes their takeout order from the brown bag. The smell of Indian food has always made it easier for her to forget whatever trouble is lingering in her mind.

"You know, sometimes a home cooked meal tastes way better than takeout," Renee comments, disturbing the silence.

"Is this your passive aggressive way of asking to be in charge of cooking the food next time?" Caroline asked, squinting an eye at her as she pops her hip out.

Renee's mouth curved into a smile at being caught, keeping her eyes locked on adjusting the plates even more, "Yes, it is." This was the first time Caroline has spoken since Bonnie has arrived; neither are on speaking terms because Bonnie has a necklace Caroline wants back, it belongs to Damon. She doesn't understand why she would want something he owned. Maybe she's handing it back to him, em, for closure or something.

Caroline rolls her eyes, not bothering to restrain her smile and Elena laughs lightly, suggesting, "How about next time, you'll be in charge of the food?"

"I like that idea a lot." Renee agrees, raising her eyebrows up and down at them. She peers at Bonnie entering the kitchen avoiding Caroline's direction, biting her lip. Caroline sends Elena a pointed look. Renee presses her lips together, nudging her head in Bonnie's direction as Elena adds in a stronger look. With each second that passes, the air grows heavier with awkwardness, silent tension. This is not how the night was suppose to go but they have plenty of hours to makeup for it.

Caroline sighs succumbing to Elena's pointed glances, shifting her body to face Bonnie's leaning on the counter. "I'm sorry. There. I said it. If you want the ugly-ass necklace, keep it. It's yours."

Bonnie's mouth opens and closes, struggling to let the words leave her tongue. "Will you hate me if I tell you I threw it away?" Renee's eyebrows shoots up, why would she throw it away when she knew Caroline wanted it back? No, wait, there's a good enough reason, Bonnie isn't the type to do things just because.

In this moment, it seems Caroline forgot about that trait as she sneers, "You threw it away?"

"I know it sounds crazy, but the necklace was giving me nightmares," Bonnie tried explaining, leaning on the counter. "I had to get rid of it."
