|chapter ten:: goodbye my friend|

"ON the first of June, at 9:30 pm," The detective began, "You went to the school swimming pool, Marina was there and in the middle of a heated argument, you picked up the trophy and hit her on the back of her head with it. But she didn't die from the impact, which means you left her there bleeding to death," Her eyes don't leave mine as she explained my sister's death, "This is what we believe happened, and more importantly, what a judge will believed happened. Do you have anything to say in your defense?"

My alarm echoed through my room and I groaned before I roamed my bedside table to turn it off. When I did, I slowly sat up and looked out the window, seeing it was very dark even though it was still morning. I furrowed my brows, a weird feeling settling in my stomach when I stood out of my bed, as I also heard nothing but silence outside my room.

Today didn't feel right for some reason. None of it felt right.

I put on my uniform and went downstairs after putting my hair up into a ponytail, heading into the kitchen to see everyone eating breakfast, though Marina was standing up by the window and Guzman was standing near his seat as he made his breakfast. When I headed home after the huge fight, there was a even bigger one there when they were arguing about Marina being pregnant. I was so exhausted, I went to my room and just stayed there the whole weekend until now.

Guzman looked over at me, smiling a bit since he hadn't seen me in days, "Good morning, Adriana." He's tried to convince me to leave my bed along with our parents, but he was the most determined. He expressed how sorry he was and how Ander told him what happened when I found him. Ander's also been texting and calling me as well, trying check up on me, but I didn't respond to him. I didn't have the energy for it.

"Morning," I said back, my parents looking at me with smiles as I say next to Guzman. My father was finally bailed out of prison, thanks to Guzman's help and determination to get him home.

"Are you guys coming to the party?" Guzman asked our parents, "It starts at seven."

"We have nothing to celebrate." Dad dismissed and I looked up at him before glancing over at Marina, "Don't forget your appointment tomorrow." We all then looked at Marina when Dad placed his fork down, "So now you're not going to speak to us?"

Marina glanced our way, "I just want to say that I love you guys very much," She stated, "And that I hope you forgive me one day." The room was quiet again, but dad's phone interrupted the silence.

He quickly answered before getting up, clear anger in his voice as he walked off, but I tuned him out as I take some fruit and eat on them slowly. My mother then smiled at me, also ignoring my father's conversation, "I hope you have your dress ready."

"Yeah, I do," I hummed, seeing my phone buzz at it was next to my plate. I already knew who it was from, so I left it be. "Too bad you're not going to come."
