Delilah hadn't been able to stop smiling since the moment she woke up. She was just that happy that there was no reason not to smile. She had an extra skip in her step that even June had noticed, but whenever her sister questioned her Delilah would just shrug and say she woke up in a good mood.
Something about either Delilah's happiness or whatever had happened between June and Brad at the party kept June from saying anything about Delilah's outfit for the day and instead of wearing one of the dresses or skirts she was always forced into, the brunette wore her favorite pair of white jeans and a blue sweater to go with it. It was almost like a compromise between June's desire for her to always look her best and Delilah's desire to just wear something comfortable and more like herself.
Delilah barely even noticed June's mood and the way she was a little more condescending and rude to people than usual because for some reason, June had barely even thrown a remark in her direction. She was even too lost in her own daydreams to notice the way June and Brad locked eyes for a moment before June was pulling Delilah and the rest of her group in the opposite direction while Brad watched after her sadly.
The brunette was just walking on cloud nine and she hoped the feeling would never go away. This was the happiest Delilah had been since her father joined the military, maybe even in her entire life, and it was all because of Stanley Barber.
At some point Delilah was able to ditch June and head towards class, but she didn't get far before she caught sight of a certain curly haired boy coming around the corner and into the hallway she was in. It took but a second for his gaze to meet hers and the two found themselves walking up to each other before stopping only a foot or two away.
Delilah's cheeks grew a little pink as she stared at the boy, her heart fluttering as she remembered the feeling of his lips against her own. As for Stanley, he was caught in a trance which wasn't really anything new, but this was different because all he could think about was how the night before he had gotten to kiss the girl of his dreams. Who knew what the future had in store for them?
"Hey there, Delilah," Stanley finally said, his lips turning up into one of those effortless smiles of his as he, as always, chuckled softly at his play on words.
Delilah never knew why that amused him so much, but if it meant she got to hear his laugh every time he said it then she wouldn't be the one to complain.
"Hello there, Stanley Barber," Delilah greeted, smiling so wide that the boy swore her teeth sparkled. Her eyes momentarily flickered over to the bruise on his face and her smile faltered slightly as she gently reached up and let her fingers flutter across it. "How are you?"
