Raihan sighed as he scrolled through her instagram feed, feeling guilty about the fact that he enjoyed seeing the pictures Y/N took of herself, all sweaty and tired from having finished a long day of training, along with pictures of her just generally having fun with her Pokemon.

He felt guilty that the had allowed himself to gain feelings for her. She was his friend for more years than he could remember, and telling her about his feelings would only make her feel weird, right?

He found the most recent video she had posted, which was of her pokemon roughhousing as she explained that she was coming back from Sinnoh the following day. His stomach tried to do backflips at the thought of her returning home, running into his arms, returning a loving kiss as he spun her around.

But that wouldn't happen.

He wasn't willing to risk his friendship with her just because of his selfishness.

He scrolled up, being met with a picture she had just uploaded of her clutching a Pokeball in a manicured hand with the sunset in the background.

'Got a lil' sumthn for my bestie ❤ Luv u Rai'

For a moment, he didn't trust his heart to not to burst out of his chest and begin an entire gymnastics routine in his livingroom. He knew she was speaking in a platonic way.

'Luv u too, waiting for you to come back ❤ can't wait to see u again 😔😘'

His message was innocent enough, right? He could play it off as a joke if anyone asked him, so he didn't need to worry.

He still felt guilty, though. What right did he have to develop feelings for her when he barely had time to hang out with her? Even though she also had a busy schedule, being a big-time Instagram influencer and all, he usually worked on the days she had off, and vice versa. It was enough to make him regret becoming a gym leader, and taking a different path than her.

Raihan had wanted to be the first person to greet you as you stepped off the plane.

Unfortunately, the press had different ideas, as they usually did. He found himself behind a wall of people desperate to ask questions about her time with the Sinnoh League and her time in the region.

He couldn't stop the pride that swelled in his chest when she ignored all of them, shouting his name and pushing through the crowd to get to him.

Once she reached him she jumped into his arms, and he spun her around. He heard the cameras click, no doubt about to speculate about their relationship, but he didn't care, and neither did she. When he put her back on the ground she gasped, reaching into her bag.

"I forgot I had something for you!" she said, pulling out a pokeball. She placed it in his hand, nodding at him to open it.

He did, and he was met with an adorable, round dragon-type Pokémon. He picked it up, grinning. It was surprisingly heavy for how small it was.

"How did you get this?" he asked. "Isn't the encounter rate really low for these?"

"It isn't that low, when you think about it," she said. "There are Pokémon that have even lower encounter rates here. But, this one was bred by Cynthia. He's the son of her very own Garchomp, so he's gonna be very strong when he's all leveled up."

"A-And you're giving it to me? Why wouldn't you keep him for yourself?" He asked, still in awe as the Gible cooed at him.

Y/N shrugged. "You know I'm not big on the whole battling scene, Rai. Besides, I know you'd get more use out of him than I would. I want him to be loved and appreciated, and I already have a team that demands all of my attention."

"So? Do you like him?" Y/N asked.

As Raihan was out training his new Gible in the Wild Area, Y/N appeared behind him, placing her arms on his shoulders to hoist herself up so that she could wrap her legs around his waist. She rested her head on his shoulder, and he desperately hoped she couldn't hear the way that it made his heart go into overdrive.

"Looks like he's doing well so far," she said, yawning.

"He fits right in with the rest," Raihan told her, grinning as he watched his newest Pokémon run around trying to beat up Duraludon. He watched as his partner picked up his foot, lightly tapping the round dragon and knocking it directly over. "What are you doing up, anyways? Didn't you stay up for a photoset practically all night?"

His friend responded with a hum. "Yeah, I'm gonna head home in a bit to catch up on sleep, but I figured I'd stop by and see how he was doing before I did. Besides, I've already downed like ten espresso shots, so I still have time before those wear off and I can actually fall asleep." Despite her words, Raihan could feel her grip beginning to loosen as she slowly started to fall asleep.

He chuckled, recalling his Pokemon with the reason of them having trained enough. "You're going to drive me mad if you keep doing this, love," he warned her.

"Hate to break it to you, but you were already long gone before we even met," she told him. He couldn't help rolling his eyes at her. She knew as well as he did that they had known each other their whole lives.

That's not how I meant it...

He couldn't help deflating a little in disappointment, hoping she didn't notice, but was relieved when he felt her breathing had already evened out. He shifted her so that she was more secure on his back before he began walking back to Hammerlocke.

So what if he had feelings for her? It wasn't worth the risk of losing his oldest friend over it. Maybe one day she'd catch feelings for him too.

He could wait.

I finally got this done ayyyy. Sorry it took so long, I was figuring out how to end this oops
