You sat on the balcony, a sad book full of empty, unnamed feelings, grated onto a blanket of welled tears sat in your lap. you wanted to cry the tears the characters couldn't but you couldn't either. it's not real you told yourself.
shaking your head, you closed the heart-wrenching novel and slammed it onto the small glass table next to you, frustrated with the plot.
new york was alive beneath you, despite how late it was, the murmurs of millions of individuals and the squeal of tires of thousands of cabs frenzied around below. the breeze was soft, a little chilly, causing prickles on your skin.
"Amor?" the drowsy voice of your lover sounded from the bedroom behind you. you swivelled around, seeing timmy sprawled on his stomach in your white sheets, hair a tangled mess and skin glowing from the city lights that spilled through the sheer curtains. the chair screeched as you rose, wincing at the piercing sound as you made your way around the furniture in the small area. you stepped through the sliding doors, disregarding the paperback that sat with worn edges and crinkled pages.
slipping off the t-shirt you sported, Charles couldn't help but stare in awe at the way the night lights danced across your half-clothed body. he whined, lifting one hand and wiggling his long fingers. you rolled your eyes at the boy, a smile spreading across your cheeks. your heart swelled as his eyes closed, his breathing becoming visibly calmer.
you placed one knee on the bed before you took his outstretched hand and leant over, kissing his temple, your other hand lost in his unruly locks. Charles sighed before cracking one forest eye open and pulling your forearm towards him. your body crashed down on the mattress towards him, laughter from both ends bouncing off the walls.
he drew you in, his lips placing soft kisses on your shoulder and his hand dancing across your hip. you sighed as you circled your arm around his head, hugging him closer, earning a light giggle from Charles.
"what's so funny, huh?" you mumbled, warm cheek pressed against his while his body shook from laughter. you pulled away to examine your boyfriend's screwed expression. he rolled onto his back, palm laying flat on his stomach. you swore you saw a tear leak from the corner of his eye as you watched in confusion, an elbow supporting your weight.
"the way you slammed that book down!" and then he was lost in hysterics.
