It was already a shitty day, and you were in a terrible mood, all you wanted was to relax, maybe have a glass of wine and decompress, anything. All you wanted was home. But when you walked up to the door of your apartment something wasn't right. The door was cracked open and the lock looked like it'd been messed with. You pushed it open a little further and saw your entire place was in disarray. It was a small apartment, not much bigger than a studio, so you were able to see most of the whole place, and it seemed like nothing was left unturned. You took a few steps in but stopped yourself.
What if they were still there?
Is he hiding behind the couch?
With your hands shaking, you pull your phone out of your bag and press the first person you knew would fix it. Would make you feel better.
"Charles.." your voice was low and shaky.
The smile, he'd had when he saw your picture flash up on your phone, was gone the moment he heard the fear dripping from your voice.
"Baby, what's wrong?"
"I think someone- someone broke in everything's all messed up I -"
"Honey listen to me. Go downstairs, and call the police. I'll be there soon, okay?"
"Okay, just hurry Charles, please." You can hear him shuffling around, keys rattling in his hand.
"I'm on my way."
You had no idea where he was, but Charles showed up faster than the police. He met you downstairs at the front of the building, and he'd hardly stepped up on the curb before you had your arms around him, tucking your face into his neck. And just like that, every emotion that'd been simmering inside of you came rushing out in a fit of sobs.
He held you just as close, one arm around your waist the other resting on the back of your head holding you there.
"You okay?"
As soon as he said it he realized how stupid it must sound. You were crying into his neck, of course, you weren't okay. But he just wanted to know if you were hurt, because if a hair was touched on your head...
He pulled your head out of his neck, cupping your face with his hands, whipping the tears from your face.
"It's okay. Your safe now, I got you."
You nodded your head pitifully, as he pressed a kiss to your forehead and pulled you in tight, resting his chin on your head, occasionally pressing soft kisses to your hair, whispering the mantra over and over.
It's okay. You're safe now, I got you.
He whispered the mantra to you over and over, pressing soft kisses to your hair, as you clung onto him, your tears staining his shirt.
When the police arrived, the two of you stepped back and let them do their work, while you gave them the little information you had, and going over anything that was missing. Fortunately, nothing of sentimental value was stolen.
"You're staying with me tonight. I don't want you here." He spoke, voice firm, yet comforting. You didn't lift your head from his chest as he held you, just nodding. You didn't feel much like talking, everything was just too much and you didn't want to go into another fit of crying.
......
Once you're showered and setting in bed with Charles you feel your body finally start to relax. Not entirely but you've definitely calmed down from a few hours ago.
Charles was holding you close, fingers slowly running up and down your arms, soothingly as you lay your head on his chest. He could see you trying to stay awake, and his heart broke.
He could see you trying to sleep you were yawning.
"Go to sleep my love, you've had a rough day."
"Don't think I can." you murmured, burrowing yourself closer to him.
He lifts your chin up, eyes locked on yours "Hey, it's okay. I'm right here. I'm not going to let anything happen to you."
You just looking at him, and the love in his eyes made you calmer.
He gave you a soft peck to your lips as place your head back onto his chest, and eventually, fall asleep to Charles softly humming one of your favorite songs, and his kisses to your hair.
