"Mom, bat wala pa yung red string sa pinky ko? Nagbirthday na naman na ko.." I asked my mom while preparing my bento box.

She turned to me and smiled. "Kasi hindi pa ata nagbibirthday yung soulmate mo. Don't worry, magshoshow up din yan."

"Ganon pala yun, akala ko kasi pagsapit ng 13, magshoshow up na agad.." I mumbled. I went upstairs and changed my clothes.

12:21 am
October 10, 3030

Mag iisang taon na, pero wala paring lumalabas sa hinliliit ko. May soulmate pa ba ako?

*phone rings*

"Deigna? Why'd you call?" I asked.

"Yui~, pwede ka bang magpunta dito? Nuod tayo ng Netflix!" She said.

Kung kelan naman ako mag aaral, saka naman to mag aaya.

"Tumigil ka nga dyan, may exam tayo bukas.." I said and sighed.

"What exam?" Deigna asks.

"HOY MAY EXAM TAYO SA CALCULUS AT SA CLASSIC LITERATURE BOKE!" (Stupid) I said, almost yelling.

"bAT DI MO AGAD SINABIIII?! HUHU BABAGSAK NANAMAN AKO NETO" She said and started to fake-cry.

"Kung ako sayo, titigilan ko muna yang panonood ng netflix at babasahin ko yung libro" I sighed again. "Mag aaral pa ko, let's talk later nalang sa school."

I ended the call and messed up my hair.

Bakit kailangan bukas pa yung pinakamahihirap?!

I checked the time, 12:47 am. I'm already so sleepy even though I drank several energy drinks.

"Kailangan ko mag-aral. Kailangan ko mag-aral. Kailangan ko mag-aral. Kailangan ko mag-aral..." I murmured and got back to studying.

"Lesson 12, Haiku and Tanka.." I closed my eyes and sighed.

I heard someone knock on my door. "Yui? Gising ka pa ba?"

"Yep, come in." I responded.The door opened and there was Yoshio.

He sat on my bed and watched me study. "You should be sleeping by now."

"Hindi pwede, may test kami bukas." I said nonchalantly. "Besides, after naman ng test ay free time na kaya baka dun nalang ako bumawi ng tulog."

"Here." He gave me a plastic bag. "Goodluck sa test nyo tomorrow. Text me if okay ka na lumabas, susunduin kita."

I smiled and thanked him. He got up and left.

I checked the time again. 1:32 am. And while I was heading back to my room, my pinky finger on my right hand tightened. I looked at it and...

The Red String.

I was even more surprised when another red string appeared on my pinky finger on my left hand.

Pwede ba yun?! 4-way-soulmates? Bakit ganito yung akin?

I opened my computer and researched.

I guess eto na yung kapalaran ko.

I just sighed and went back to studying. I continued to read and lost track of time.

"I'm finally done!" I said and stretched my arms. It was already 5:53 am. I got up from my desk and went to the bathroom to shower and start my morning routine.

"Zakura Yui Yamaguchi! You pulled an all-nighter again?! Lagi nalang hindi naaayos yang sleep schedule mo!" My mom shouted from downstairs.

"Mom Kinailangan ko yun para sa exams ngayon! I promise I didn't do anything besides studying!" I said and continued to wash myself.

"Mom, let her be. Nag aaral naman sya eh." I heard Yoshio say. "And Yui's not a kid anymore, she can do whatever she wants."

"Yoshio's right, hun. Watashitachi wa kanojo ga benkyō suru no o tomeru hitsuyō wa arimasen ne? (We don't have to stop her from studying, right?)" Dad replied.

I smiled at my dad's reply. He's always defending me. I got out of the shower and changed my clothes.

"Yui! Nandito na si Deigna!" My mom said.

"Tell her to come here, please!" I responded.

"Ohayō! Anata no suimin wa dōdesu ka?" (Good morning! How's your sleep?) Deigna shouted.

"Be quiet, boke." (Dumbass) I said and covered my ears.

"Ba't ba ang grumpy mo? Di ka natulog no?" Deigna asked. I slightly nodded. "Yan kasi, aral ng aral di naman magagamit sa future!"

"Well, magagamit mo 'to bago ka grumaduate, baka." (Stupid) I said while chuckling.

"Ang hilig mo talagang magmura.."

"Watashi wa kinishinai." (I don't care)

"Tse! Tara na nga!"

"Wait lang! May itatanong lang ako saglit." I said and she stopped walking. "May red thread ka ba sa pinky mo ngayon?"

"Actually, oo. Pero di ko pa nahahanap yung soulmate ko." Deigna said with a sad tone. "But I'll find him or her naman soon."

I nodded slowly. "Sa isang pinky mo lang meron?"

"Oo, bakit?"

"Ah, wala lang haha.." I replied and smiled.

I guess this isn't common.

"Kumain ka na tapos alis na tayo!" Deigna said and ran downstairs.

"Yeah, sure..."
