Chapter Eight -

-Megan's Point of View-

"This is all your fault!" I scream at Jay. The idiot decided to take a shortcut. We ended up getting lost and he didn't even notice that we ran out of gas. Now we're stuck in the middle of nowhere, with no cell service, no nothing.

"Yeah okay, you've said that about seven times now, I think I get it," he rolls his eyes at me and I swear to god I want to scrape them out of their sockets.

Instead, I unbuckle my seatbelt and get out of the car. If he won't find a way, I will. I didn't sign myself up for this so I'm not sitting in a car all day waiting for a miracle to happen.

Where do I head first? This place is literally like a desert, only the ground is all muddy not sandy. Jay slams the car door and I hear his footsteps catching up to me. I decide to go straight ahead.

"Where are you going?" His voice books through me and I'm seconds away from punching him. Ignoring him, I keep walking trying to quicken my pace.

"Don't ignore me, Megan," I feel his hand grab my elbow to turn me to him.

"I'm trying to find some help because some twit over here got us lost. Now if you excuse me-" he interrupts me before I can finish.

"The sky doesn't look too good, it's most likely going to rain, maybe even a storm. Stay inside the car and I'll come back when I find some help," his words are stern and it sounds like I'm his daughter. Well Jay, I'm a strong, independent woman and you can't boss me around like that. Plus I don't trust him.

"No. This was your fault, I'm going to fix it and you can't stop me. You're on my last nerve now and if you don't let go of me, I promise, I will damage you."

We have a stare off and his gaze is so intense, I want to give in and stay in the car. Luckily for me he releases my elbow, more pissed than ever.

"Fine."

----

"We've been walking for an hour now," Jay informs me.

"We would be in my mother's house if it weren't for Mr I Know Everything," I remark, pushing his buttons.

He sighs and I smile inwardly, I got the last say.

"Have you got service yet?" I ask him after five more minutes of walking.

"No and my battery's getting really low, like 6% low," he tells me. Great, just bloody great.

"Well then walk faster!"

After tens minutes of trying to speed walk through the muddy, not very well constructed ground, I feel a cold drop of water against my cheek. You have got to be kidding me.

I let out an unladylike groan and wrap my sweater tighter around my body.

The rain gets heavier and heavier and I can hardly see ahead of me because of the fog. Lightning flashes somewhere in the dark clouds and not long after, a clap of thunder comes. A storm. Lovely.

I start to run and I feel Jay hot in my tracks.

We've been running for about fifteen minutes now and I'm doing my best to not lose my breath. I'm starting to lose hope too and I almost want to give up but the brown brick wall of a cottage keeps me sane.

"Over there!" I exclaim and run a little bit faster. My clothes are sticking to my body and all I want now is the warmth of my shower in the ricin loudly large bathroom in my ridiculously large bedroom.

When we get to the front door of the small house, I don't hesitate to knock frantically on it. The door opens, revealing a woman with blonde hair and vibrant blue eyes.

"Oh dear god, come in both of you! It's lashing out there!" She hurriedly invites us in, an English accent evident.

She runs into a room and comes back out with towels and extra clothes.

"There's a shower in that room and inside the master bedroom," I nod my head, still shaking and make my way into one of the bathrooms.

The heat of the water eases me and I stay in the shower longer than I had hoped. I finish up and I change into the t shirt and pyjama bottoms the woman gave me.

I realise then that I didn't get her name and I didn't tell her mine. She must be thinking of how rude and impolite I am. When I open the door, she smiles at me with a cup in her hands.

"Hello dear, I hope you're warm enough now," she's so nice.

"I am, thank you, sorry for intruding your privacy and all, we got lost and it started to rain and I'm sorry,"the words are rushed from my mouth and Jay walks in after me.

"Thank you for letting us in, I'm Jay and this is Megan," he introduces us, me forgetting my manners yet again.

She reaches out to shake our hands and says, "Rachel."

I know this isn't safe. To come inside a strangers house and stuff but there's something about Rachel that makes you feel secure, like she couldn't hurt you. We all sit down around the table and she makes us each a cup of tea. I make conversation, making up for my rudeness earlier.

Then she looks behind me and the brightest smile takes over her face.

"Here's my son!" Rachel stands up and walks over to the doorway of her kitchen. Standing there is a man around Jay's size, brown hair with the same vibrant blue eyes as Rachel.

"Jay, Megan, this is Michael, my son."
