Warning: this is very long.
Now this essay is a collection of ideas focusing on The Child Era of Zelda. This era is birthed from when Adult Link during Ocarina of Time is sent back in time via. The Song of Time to relive his childhood. And with Ganondorf out of the picture the focus on Zelda in this timeline is smaller compared to the others. The furry fetish romance of Link and Imp Midna within the Zelda Fan-Base is the best example of why (thanks Zone-Sama). However, this entry is not about fan-fictional erotica but about the theories that have spread like wildfire about this era. Most specifically in the nightmarish, dark Zelda installment: Majora's Mask. Theories span from The Happy Mask Salesman to The Lunar Children of Majora's Moon to The Stone Tower Temple (I hated this level as a child) to Parallel Dimensions. Of course I will go over these theories plus more as I proceed in this essay. Let's first start with the history of the entity known as Majora's Mask...
"The mask that was stolen from me... It is called Majora's Mask. It is an accursed item from legend that is said to have been used by an ancient tribe in its hexing rituals. It is said that an evil and wicked power is bestowed upon the one who wears that mask. According to legend... the troubles caused by Majora's Mask were so great... the ancient ones, fearing such catastrophe, sealed the mask in shadow forever, preventing its misuse..." - Happy Mask SalesmanNow let's review the Interlopers from Twilight Princess...
"Among those living in the light, interlopers who excelled at magic appeared. Wielding powerful sorcery, they tried to establish dominion over the Sacred Realm. It was then that the goddesses ordered us three light spirits to intervene. We sealed away the great magic those individuals had mastered." - Lanayru
Now before we proceed with a Skyward Sword reference I'm going to discuss a set of theories revolving around the species that invented Majora's Mask. Trust me this is needed to bridge an understandable transition to an already complicated writing. Now in Majora's Mask the creators of this evil mask (or spirit if you want to be literal) were made by a group of people known as The Ancient Ones. Anyway, it's been heavily debated that one of these species could be The Ancient Ones: The Sheikah, The Twili/The Interlopers, The Gerudo, The Garo or some kind of race of Avian creatures. My opinion I believe the Ancient Ones are beings with traits of each species. Not necessarily related but an origin of where these beings evolved from; a prehistoric to modernization theme.
The Twili/The Interlopers: There are many similarities between these races. The artwork of The Fused Shadow has eye resemblance to Majora, the boss battle with Zant-whips, dances and insane screaming (coincidence I think not)-the concept art for Ganondorf displays chest armor with a blatant resemblance to Majora's Mask and the emphasis on ''shadows'' during The Interlopers and Majora's Mask histories. The Twilight Realm on many occasions is nicknamed in the series as ''The Realm of Shadows''. Huh...talk about train of thought.
The Garo: They are listed as a possible species merely through The Stone Tower Temple. According to The LOZ (Legend of Zelda) section of Wikipedia...
"The tower has clear connections to the Triforce, Majora's Mask, and the Four Giants. The fact that the Eastern Giant is held at the top of the tower seems to indicate that he was tasked with protecting Stone Tower Temple. The presence of the Triforce also is puzzling, as who ever built the tower obviously had knowledge of its existence. It is possible the Garo, the shadow warriors whose leader is found within Stone Tower Temple, were the makers of Majora's Mask, and that the pocket dimension Link fights Twinmold in was once a temple they had built to house the mask, or possibly the place in which they sealed it away since gamers learn that the "ancient tribe" sealed the mask away "in shadow." This is contradicted by information from Pamela's Father, who states that the Garo are spies from a enemy nation, implying they came from farther away. Due to the statement of Ikana's Igos du Ikana that his army could not topple Stone Tower, it seems clear that whoever inhabited the temple eventually became enemies of the kingdom of Ikana. Igos also mentions that when the "doors of Stone Tower" were opened, a curse flowed from its summit that laid waste to the entire region. This could possibly be the reason he and his soldiers attempted to climb the tower, to shut off the source of the curse and to destroy the ones that opened the doors of Stone Tower."
