I think that the blue fairy that appears as the pointer in Twilight Princess is Navi. TP Link is the child of a OoT Link, who died trying to find Navi. OoT Link became the Hero's Shade and remains in the Lost Woods and years later, Navi happened to come across him. Hero's Shade then tells Navi about everything that happened after she left, and about the son that he left all alone. Feeling guilty, Navi promised Hero's Shade that she'd watch over his son. That's why there is a fairy as a pointer.
