"Happy birthday, Jungkook~! Happy birthday, Jungkook~! Happy birthday, happy birthday, happy birthday, Jungkook!!" the now old man sang as he put the small birthday cake in front of the excited boy.
"Make a wish, Jungkook! It's your 18th birthday after all!"
Jungkook closed his sparkling eyes, took a deep breath and blew on the lightened candles with force, his mind traveling to a life beyond these four grey walls and the careful eyes of his guardian.
"Ehm, Jungkook, please blow more gently this time.. The whole cake almost caught fire." Hoseok said with a frown.
"O-Oh, sorry hyung.. You know I can't control it yet...." Jungkook said and softly blew on the candles until the fire turned to smoke.
"I hope you made a good wish, boy. My mom used to say that 18th birthdays are special.."
"I'm not going to tell you what I wished for, hyung. But... I think it was a beautiful wish."
The hopeful 18 year old let out a small sigh, dark wings curling into his back as he felt his neck tighten. What he would give to finally get out of this lab, see the outside world, meet new people and maybe.. maybe find more about his parents...
Of course he knew something like that was impossible. A dragon like him would always stay inside this small, depressing cage, kept hostage by thousands of scientists doing experiments with his DNA daily.
Although Jungkook had grown to love his guardian, Hoseok, he couldn't help the sadness coming over him whenever he thought of what could have happened if the old man didn't bring him to this huge laboratory run by a hybrid research organisation.
Hoseok left the birthday cake on the small table placed inside Jungkook's enclosure and slowly stood up.
"I have to go now, Jungkook. Hyolyn said she has some more test samples for me to check out in the nano-biology department. Don't wait for me to come back today. Get some sleep or, I don't know, ask Taehyung to keep you some company when he comes to mop the floors.. See you tomorrow, kid." he said with a gentle nod of his head as he closed the cage's metal door, put in the password and went on his way.
Jungkook absentmindedly traced the small scales on the sides of his neck while looking on the door Hoseok just closed, a nostalgic look on his face.
"If only there was a window down here... Or a television... I heard Taehyung say he and Jimin always spend hours watching cooking shows together.." he sighed.
Jungkook may have just become an adult, but he felt less free and independent than ever before.

"Miss Y/n.. Over here, please.." the young assistant said to you as she slowly led you to the laboratory you would be working in.
Damn, this is just too exciting!, you thought as your eyes took in everything around you, from the hundreds of people working nonstop to the expensive equipment and the huge screens popping up everywhere in the walls, showing diagrams and helping scientists with their research.
You were just 18, but you had worked very hard to get an internship in this company since it was known globally for its amazing findings on hybrid life and the different genetic mutations the vaccine caused.
Your eyes shifted back in front of you where the cat hybrid's tail waved graciously as she stopped in front of a huge white door.
"This is the laboratory you are placed in. Your supervisor is Mr. Jung Hoseok, a true expert in his field. I wish you luck!" she said with a purr and quickly turned around to return to her duties.
Not knowing what else to do, you carefully pushed the door, catching a glimpse of the interior. Around 20 people were placed all over the lab, each one of them working hard on their projects while a figure dressed in a bright white robe seemed to give out instructions.
You slowly slipped inside and tried walking towards the one person who looked like the supervisor.
"H-Hello, excuse me.. My name is Y/n.. I am the intern for Mr. Jung Hoseok..." you said, your eyes meeting the brown orbs of the man in front if you.
"Oh, hello there! I am Jung Hoseok! Welcome to my lab!" he replied cheerfully, making you feel a lot more welcome than before.
"Here, take this." he said, placing a small tablet in your hands. "Inside you will find any necessary information about everything you are required to do here. I know you are pretty young, but I've also been informed of your amazing skills! I can't wait to see what you come up with!"
Hoseok smiled and then turned and quickly walked away, busy giving more instructions to the rest of the scientists in the laboratory.
You curiously unlocked the tablet and found the list of things you'd have to complete today.

Thankfully, it seemed like your boss would go easy on you, probably because it's your first day here.
Hmm.. I think I'll just take a good look around first before I go for lunch in the cafeteria.. This place is huge!, you thought and quickly walked out of Mr. Jung's laboratory to explore the rest of the building.
