Chapter 6: Sense of Power

Once Nya had removed herself from the circle. Chike breathing slowed down. She took deep breathes and let it out. Then just as if things weren't weird enough. It got weirder. Chike's eyes rolled to the back of her head as the book in front of her was lifting in mid-air in their apartment. Nya stunned by this takes a step back and watches in amazement that her best friend is doing the impossible. Chike lifts her hands and begins chanting "when the night causes a storm my gods will come. Bringing wrath to those who walk upon. I ask of my ancestors give me the strength. From those who were slaves. to those who were worshipped. From those who they called they. I ask you. GIVE ME YOUR POWER!!". As Chike stated these words her hands begin to shine as if she holding a ball of light. She levitates in the air and continues chanting. They heard something crashing. This caused Nya to look out the window. She saw lightning striking right outside and she looks back at Chike.

Chike rotates her body in flowing motion almost like she dancing but Chike saw something that was not positive energy it was lurking right outside her circle. Before she continues to chant. Her breathing speed up and soon she lost track of her energy causing her to fall. Nya ran towards her and held her up. "What happened? What's wrong" Chike looks where she saw the figure but it was no longer there. She jumped up and look at the book. She memorized it somehow. She looks at Nya and says "I must learn each spell. I saw something. It was watching me from the distant but it couldn't come close. The crystals were protecting me." Nya looks at me with fear and said " something. I mean someone was in our home." Nya looked around fearful. I got up and said "It seems to be watching. I don't know but what I do know those eyes glaring at me seemed like it won't be the last". 

Once they had cleaned up the living room. Chike sat there chewing on leftover pizza as Nya stares at her in amazement. Chike looks up at Nya and says "What?" Nya blushes and says "It just who would've thought my best friend would be good at witchcraft" Chike smiles saying " I know right!? I wonder if I could do a spell that makes you fall in love or like make me food!" Nya facepalms herself saying "that's the first thing you think of doing. Why not predict someone's future or something?" Chike looks up and ponders on it. "I only saw that in movies but do you think I can?" Nya responds by just nodding her head in excitement.  Chike begins to wonder about her powers. How far can these powers go? Can I solve things that people all over have been questioning in their whole life? Soon after Nya looks at her phone saying "wow, we pulled an all-nighter it's 6:30 AM". 

This causes Chike to get up saying "Oh my god. I'm supposed to go to work to see if I'm fired or not" Nya looks at Chike and laughs "What? At 6:30 AM". Chike laughs with her saying "No, but all that spells and reading has made me sweat. I need a shower".  Nya starts to sniff me saying "girl yes, cause them armpits are giving me funky vibes". Both the girls laugh as Chike goes to her room. Once Chike undresses she begins to feel eyes on her. She ignores it due to the feeling of being too exhausted to even investigate it. As Chike showers in her bathroom. She ponders on the figure, even more, wondering was it even human. Why was it glaring at her? She couldn't be the only one who does witchcraft. She sighs and continues washing. Until she feels something watching her again. She turns around seeing no one. She hurries and finishes showering. 

Once she got out and got dressed she saw it was 8:15 AM and decided it was time to hurry to her job. They're usually close during this time cause they open around noon. When Chike walks out of her room she notices Nya calmly sleeping on the couch. This causes Chike to blush but she hurries and quietly leaves hoping to not wake her roommate. Once she closes the door and locks it. She walks to French Quarters. Things felt different. Chike felt eyes piercing her soul but each time she glances back nothing was there. She opens the door to her job as she notices everyone cleaning up the place. For the first time in a while, there was silence not even Keisha had a word to say. They glued their eyes on Chike as she goes in the back of the kitchen.

 When she got there Jamie stood there waiting. Jamie glares at Chike saying "Come here. Now". Chike rushes towards her as Jamie holds the door to her office.  Once Chike entered the room. Jamie slammed the door and bumps Chike to sit down. She looks up at her and Chike could've sworn she seen her eyes turn red.  Chike stood there as she waited for Jamie to yell at her for her behavior last night. Jamie sighed and said "I'm not firing you but it's obvious you're going through something. I'm putting you on paid leave. for the rest of these two weeks. Please Chike get it together and let's hope next time isn't you getting fired".

Chike nods and walks out of the room. When she opens the door. Keisha just standing there like she trying to hear everything. Keisha then proceeds to say "you youngsters just cause trouble". I look at her and said, "excuse me". She then proceeds to say "you heard me. Ms.wannabegrown. All you kids do is just cause trouble and think you can get away with it. If it was me I would've got fired but no you're young." Chike rolls her eyes and bumps Keisha out the way saying "I'm not sorry for that. oops". Keisha rolls her sleeves up and decides to try and push Chike as Chike walks away but before she does Chike takes her hand and chant a spell making Keisha fall and break her leg. 

Chike turns around fast and sees that Keisha's leg is broke as Keisha cries out in pain. Jamie comes out of the office and sees this and begins to ask Chike what happen. Chike responds "I-I don't know we exchange words that weren't so pleasant I bump her and then she tried to push me and she fell" Jamie takes her phone out dialing 911. While Keisha yells out "you lying stank you did something to me" Chike gulps and says "I'm not lying you fell I'm not even near you to do something to you". Jamie looks at the distance between Keisha and Chike and sees that Chike was right she not near her. Jamie looks at Keisha and asks her "what happen?" Keisha then says "I saw her hand and she whispered something under her breath then boom I fell. That little girl did me something". 

Chike rolls her eyes asking Jamie "Can I go cause this is crazy. I'm already going through enough". Jamie nods as Chike turns and leaves. Once Chike left from her job. She begins to let out a huff. As she whispers to herself "I need to control my emotions. I almost killed her. Why did it feel good to do it though? Was it cause I didn't like her?". Chike walks home still feeling that glare as she once did before.
