Pain.

Pain was all Amanda felt.

And darkness.

Everything was pitch black. No one was around.

"Hello. Is anyone here? Can anyone hear me?" She called out in the stillness and silence.

Her voice rang out, falling on nothing and no one. She was scared.

No, that was an understatement.

She was terrified.

It was as if she was in a void, like that movie she watched with Riley, called Legacy. When the female character, Hope Mickelson, fell into Malvore and was surrounded with nothing but darkness and silence.

Except this time she wasn't a tribreed and this was reality, well, not really if you look at it from her prospective.

Then suddenly, as if a electric current had pulse through her body, everything flooded her memory from the mention of her best friend.

She was in the principal's office, talking to Miss. Palmer, when she found out about her best friend's disappearance.

She ran out of the office distraught.

She pushed open the doors of the school as she remembered the cool of the metal under her hot palms.

She remembered the white CR-V coming ever so closely to her, accelerating on high speed.

Then pain erupted in her body, taking everything from her in one quick gulp.

Then it was darkness.

Days had pass and Amanda had not awoken. She had a broken rib which was inches away from penetrating her lungs. She had a broken arm and a concussion.

She was like sleeping beauty. But not even a true love kiss could wake her up.

Her parents were miserable and sad.

They didn't sleep.

They didn't eat.

They didn't speak.

They only stayed by the side of her bed, holding her hand, praying to God. A God that they never believed in and made promises that they know they wouldn't fulfill, but if Amanda made it through, they would make an effort to keep it.

It was a month and Amanda still hadn't awoke. Her parents had given up hope and finally concluded that there was no God for if there was a God, he would have never let there baby suffer for this long and he would have answered there prayers.

But, on this day, she woke up.

Amanda's POV

I felt tired.

I could hear machines around me making a steady beep sound. I knew I was in the hospital.

I felt a hand holding mine. I tried to open my eyes but they were so heavy. It was like someone had glue them down.
I made another effort and slowly they lifted. I peaked through the small space my eyes were able to open and followed the hand in mine to a lady's head.

She was sitting in the chair near my bed but her head was lying on my bedside. She was sleeping.

I opened my mouth to say something but that was the next hard thing to do. I let my mouth fall open but no words came out.

My lips and throat was dry as if they were the desert itself. I tried again but no words came out.

I tried again, more determined than before and a small sound came out but it wasn't enough to wake her up.

I looked at our intertwined hands and I squeezed hers. Her head slowly lifted and she turned around to look at me.

I was shocked to see who it was.

It was my mother.

I didn't recognize her. She had dark circles under her eyes. Her heir was a mess as it was in tangles. But most of all, she was so thin.

She looked at me with big blue eyes. She held my hand tighter and started to smile.

"My baby." She said. Her voice was horse.

"My baby. My baby has awoken." She said, tears pouring out of her eyes.

"Honey. It's best you go home, I'll stay here with Aman..." my dad's voice came from the doorway. His sentence was cut off when he saw me.

"Amanda." He said in a whisper.

"Amanda my sweet princess. Your awake." He said rushing to my side and kissing me on the head.

He had grown a beard and just like mom, he had dark circles under his eyes and had loss some weight.

They continued to shower me with hugs and kisses. Then the doctor came in. He checked my vitals and shone a light in my eyes. He turned around to my parents and said

"She's fine but her rib and arm still needs to heal. She's going to have to stay here a bit longer so we can keep a close eye on her. Right now she needs to rest." He concluded.

My mother looked at me with happiness in her eyes. She kissed me again then turned around to the doctor and nod her head.

My father and the doctor then walked out of the room discussing some things about my awakening. Leaving me and mom in the room by our selves.

She stroked my cheek then said

"Rest my sweet Amanda. Your going to be alright."

It was as if I was scared of closing my eyes and going back to that dark, lonely place, but I had no choice.

My eyes became heavy again and fatigue overcame me. I tried to fight it. I tried to stay awake and my mother noticed.

"It's okay..." she said "... I'm here with you. I won't leave your side. Your okay now. Just get as much rest as you can."

Her reassurance made me feel a little better but I was still hesitant. Eventually, I made the fatigue take over and my eyes slowly closed.

The machine was giving off a rhythmic beep sound.

My mother was holding my hands and that's what I heard and felt last as I was plunged back into the darkness.
