Back at the Castle, Shadow fidgeted. The Commander and king Nigel have been in a meeting for an hour now on the comm link. Probably planning their next move. He debated back and forth about calling Rouge. He was about to, when he was summoned, Finally.

He found Commander tower on the main screen, while his highness was on a throne in the office.

"Agent Shadow, the Commander and I have reached a decision regarding our next move against Dr. Eggman."

Shadow raised an eyebrow, relaxing into a crossed arm position, " I see, what's the plan?"

The Commander spoke up, "We traced the badnik's origin to an old egg-base, however it's been abandoned for months, disconnected from the Egg-net. Right now I have Agent Rouge investigating the base attempting to look for an explanation."

"Sure, but how do I exactly fit into all of this," Shadow asked, uncrossing his arms.

"I need you here agent Shadow, the city was under attack, I need my people to be safe when the freedom fighters are far apart right now. Sonic and Sally will go with you to the southern part of Mobotropolis. There is another attack, similar to the previous ones this morning," The king looked up, expression serious.

Shadow looked toward Commander Tower on reflex, who nodded in agreement.

"Very well, I'll head out immediately," Shadow turned to leave, this was going to be a long day.

He met Sonic and Sally by the Palace gate, this time Sonic was carrying the princess.

"'Bout time Faker, c'mon let's go!"

The blue blur took off without warning. Shadow shook his head, a long day indeed.

Shadow ignited his air shoes, speeding up steadily, within moments beside the blue hedgehog.

"Nice to see you still got'cha skills, Shads," Sonic called over the wind.

Shadow felt a pang in his chest again, had Sonic expected him to have slowed down due to this..this condition? 'Snap out of it,' he told himself. He was fine, just keep up and he won't question it.

Something internally didn't agree, because a second later he found himself pushing a millimeter ahead of Sonic, who was not one to be outdone started pushing too until they were side-by-side once again. Sally only rolled her eyes at their competitive spirits, but just before the blue blur could get ahead, all of them noticed the smoke coming from the horizon. They had arrived.

Both hedgehogs screeched to a halt in front of the burning buildings. As soon as Sonic set her down, Sally took charge, "Alright, I'll try to evacuate anyone around the area, you two evacuate those buildings and cut down any badniks that get in your way.

"Right!"

"On it."

Sonic headed for the nearest building, while Shadow headed to the one on the right. Immediately encountering egg pawns. Shadow ignited his energy spear slicing through the first, ducking a punch from the second, before slicing it as well. Switching to a spindash to throw the other three off. All too easy. Maybe, he could get used to this. He headed up the stairs, checking every room for survivors, cutting down egg pawns along the way. He reached the top floor easily. That's strange, usually if possible the egg pawns take hostages, why were they guarding an empty building?

That's when the floor creaked, and small chunks of debris started falling from the ceiling. Time to go. Shadow started skating for the exit, the smoke thickening as he did.( Luckily, being a Robian did prevent smoke inhalation.) He hit the third floor, almost there..when the ceiling creaked. Shadow looked up just in time to see a support beam come crashing down.
