Marshall and the guys went out to god knows where, which left K and I to babysit Hailie. I wasn't thinking that this was how I would spend my first day as Marshall's assistant, but whatever.
Hailie was a sweet little girl. She was constantly smiling and giggling, which was breaking the silence in the room. At the moment, she was on the couch, playing a game on the tablet while eating fruit snacks.
I was sitting next to her, going through Instagram on my phone. Mostly seeing things about the girls and I hanging with D12 made me roll my eyes. Everyone was calling us 'the mystery chicks'. Our faces weren't that visible in the pictures, thank god, but I was sure someone would find out who we were soon.
Khlo was sitting on the couch opposite to us. She wasn't really the babysitter type. It's not that she hated kids, she just wasn't quite fond of them until they were able to make their own food. Which is understandable since taking care of young kids can be very annoying, but she didn't have any kids so she didn't truly understand how fun it could be at the same time.
"I'm bored." Hailie whined.
"Well what you wanna do?" I asked.
She shrugged while looking over at Khlo. She noticed her and raised an eyebrow. Hailie got up and went over to where K was sitting. Her tiny fingers played with Khlo's hair. I saw the uncomfortable look on her face as she tried to move away slowly.
"Uh what are you doi—"
"Your hair's pwretty." Hailie cut her off.
"Thanks..."
"Just let her play with ya hair K." I demanded.
She rolled her eyes at me and remained in the same position, that was until...
"Hailie stop poking me." K asked politely.
"But I'm boredddd." She cooed.
"I don't know how poking me is gonna help." K mumbled.
"Do you have any ideas of what to do?" I asked Hailie.
"Umm...lets go to the park!" She yelled.
"Ugh, I don't wa-" K started as I cut her off, "Sure let's go!" I told them both.
"Yay! We're going to the park!" She happily cheered, jumping up and down.
"Yea just let me get some snacks and put it in your bag."
She nodded while picking up her tablet and waited by the door. I went over to the snack bar and grabbed some potato chips, apple juice, and more fruit snacks. Khlo got up and got our purses while I packed the snacks into Hailie's pink sparkly Barbie backpack.
I went over to Hailie with the her bag still open as she put in her tablet. She turned around and I helped her put it on. Khlo handed me my purse as we walked out of the studio. Hailie's tiny fingers intertwined with mine as we walked to the parking lot.
As we got to the car, I opened the door and picked up Hailie putting her in the car seat that I already had setup. Khlo and I got in the front and I turned on the car with the radio playing some kids song that Hailie danced along to.
_____
We got to the park and I got out of the car to go over to Hailie's side and opened the door for her. She unbuckled herself and grabbed her bag as I carried her. We went over to the playground and she immediately dumped her bag and ran to the swings.
I went over to her and pushed her swing while Khlo grabbed her bag and sat on the bench while recording us, "Having fun Hail?"
She nodded and giggled. She started to pump by herself and I got on the swing next to her and started swinging.
"Come on K, join us." I insisted.
"Ugh, fine." She got up from the bench and got onto the swing next to us. Soon enough, we started swinging in unison. Hailie's cute giggles fill up the place once again.
I looked around and saw another girl with a little boy in the park. She looked way to young to be a mother so I assumed she was babysitting. There was also someone else in the park, a guy who looked like he was in his early 30s. He was wearing a black leather jacket with black jeans and sunglasses. He had dark black hair and seemed really pale.
Something about him seemed off, but I shook that thought out of my head.
"I wanna go on the monkey bwars." Hailie said in her cute little toddler voice.
"Okay, let's go." I said excitedly.
I grabbed her bag by the bench as all of us went over to the monkey bars. As Khlo was helping her go through, two other families came to the park and their kids went for the swings. Hailie got off the monkey bars and went to the slide. The pale guy was still lurking around which made me feel more on edge.
I nudged Khlo, "Doesn't that guy look suspicious to you?"
She looked over and her eyes widened, "Uh, yea... I think we should leave."
"Let's go get Hailie."
We speed walked to where Hailie was playing with the spiny thing that had beads in it.
"Hailie lets go back to the studio." Khlo told her.
"Why?! I wanna keep playing!" She shouted.
"Shh, Hail don't yell." I said nervously not wanting to alarm the sketchy guy, "How bout we go get ice cream instead?"
"Yay! Ice cream!" She said while jumping up and down.
"Mkay, let me get your bag and we can go."
I walked back over to the monkey bars where we left her bag. Looking up I saw the sketchy guy closer to the swings with the other families. I quickly, but not to noticeably quickly, walked back to them and handed Khlo Hailie's bag as she put it on her.
"Okay now we can get ice—" Khlo was cut off by a loud sound going through in the air.
The ringing ran through my ears as we made contact with the ground and hid behind the playground set.
Shots fired...
