4th year at Hogwarts
The balls of my feet hit the ground in quick succession. My toes digging into the ground for more traction as I hear Xav's words echoing through my head. "You have to expect the unexpected, and do that exact thing."I stop dead in my tracks turn around and raise my hands. A wall of water forms in front of me, from the droplets on the ground to the moisture in the air, it creates an almost invisible barrier that my opponent runs right into. I drop my hands and smile, "How was that?" I ask Zahara who has been training me on the ground, every Friday.
"You should be more careful about what you run into and how you dig your feet into the ground. Sure it gives you traction but it gives away where you've gone. I didn't even have to try and find you all I had to do was follow the tracks." She shakes her head. "The wall was pretty impressive though. Keep up the good work." She turns and we walk to the castle together. She turns the rest of her back to human, before we reach the grounds. As we break through the tree line I grab my shoes and wand. I tap my shoulder with my wand and am immediately changed back into our school colors.
Xavier and Killian jog to catch up with us. It's been a long week and I'm just glad it's over. Two days of rest and no training. Xav grabs my hand and gives me a cheeky smile. "We should all go swimming at the lake on Saturday."
"I'm down. We should have a cookout and watch movies." Zahara shoulders Killian as she says this. "We have a long essay to write. We'll meet you at lunch." They take off towards the castle faster than Xav and I, clearly giving us some space to talk.
Xav slips his hand into mine, and squeezes slightly as he slows to a stop and conjures a blanket for us to sit on. He's such a romantic. He also cast a privacy spell to make sure no one can make out who we are. We started dating over the summer but decided to keep it a secret from Hogwarts as a whole. Only our close friends know.
As we sit down facing the black lake watching the sunset, he lays down and closes his eyes. I stay sitting upright as I spot something coming out of the dark lake... first it's the tip of the lookout of a ship and then the rest of the ship start to emerge from the water. The ship towers over them even though it is still a distance away. "What is that?!" I ask him not able to take my eyes off of it. He shifts his weight to his forearms, watching the ship unfazed by its presence.
"I heard from Killian that every few years Hogwarts host the Tri wizard tournament. Which means a few dozen durmstrang students and beuaxbatons student come here for the year to compete." He seems unimpressed, as he lays back down the ship comes closer and docks a few hundred feet away.
I keep my eye on the ship as the rowdy students come running off and onto the lawn. A few throw some glances in our direction but I know they won't be able to make out who I am if we were to pass in the hallway later, due to Xav's privacy spell.
They continue up to the courtyard meeting dumbledore in the center. Their headmaster is the last to reach our headmaster, and he gives Dumbledore a cold greeting. They head inside and I loose sight of them after that. I scoot closer to Xav getting a little chilly. He sits up and wraps his arm around my shoulder. "I have a bad feeling about that headmaster." I shiver and Xav pulls me onto his lap.
"He's not you issue. You know that. Let what's to happen happen here...our issue lays out there..." He gestures past the dark lake into the forest. "With the MC world not the Wizarding one."
She shakes her head. "That's such bullshit. Why can't we help out both sides! Choosing one side over the other we should be United." She lays her head against his shoulder, and he rest his chin on hers. "We're just suppose to let the past repeat itself?!"
The sun is just about to disappear when, the whinny of what sounds like thirty pegasi sounds over the horizon. What looks to be a speck on the setting sun soon grows bigger and bigger. "Blimey! What are you two doin' out ere?" Hagrid stops on-top a hill with a bright orange vest and large glow sticks in each hand. "Get yourselves inside!" We hop up quickly, and make our way up to the courtyard. We stop at one of the arcs to watch a massive carriage land, nearly taking Hagrids head off.
"Beuaxbatons students, come, let's go inside, before the feast starts." Xav says ushering me inside with his hand on the small of my back, it drops away before we make it inside.
The great hall now has five tables instead of four. I'm assuming the middle table is for our guests. We make our way over to the slytherin table and have a seat. Soon after we are surrounded by Draco, and Blaise. "Julian is beginning to take the death eaters path, he's becoming more and more like our father." He says solemnly. "I've tried to talk him out of it but he just ignores me and gets angry, so angry." Draco plays with his food, pushing it from one side of his plate to the other.
"You can't change his mind?" Blaise asks with a concerned look on his face, Draco just shakes his head. "Mate, let's cheer you up. I have a funny movie I bought from a muggle store and a thingy to play it on. My room tonight."
"I'll bring the snacks." I say, giving Blaise a knowing look. "I know you love your brother but I think you need to focus on your survival. On what you need to do, what makes you happy." I glance over at the Gryffindor table and find a certain curly haired female. I shake my head and smile, finding an idea.
My eyes find their way back to our little group and find Xavs, he eyes me suspiciously knowing I'm up to something. I give him a reassuring smile but all he gives me in return is a hard stare. I bite my lip, trying to cover up my laughter.
Draco sighs and is somewhat back to normal. "You know what guys your right. I'm not my brothers father. He can make his own choices. I'm sick of him making me look like a villain." He shakes his blonde locks and smiles, his beautiful smile. "What's this movie called?"
"The-" Blaise get cut off as the doors to the dining hall slam open. About twenty beautiful ladies come prancing into the halls. Followed by a literal giant of a woman walks in behind them. I take a sip out of my goblet as she walks past us, i eye her suspiciously. I snap out of it and look around and almost bust out laughing as everyone is staring at her in awe, jaws hanging wide open.
The first class of the year is Defense Against the Dark Arts taught by none other than Madeye Moody. He teaches us about the three unforgivable curses. He actually uses the curses on a spider. I look away but can still hear the screeching I stand up and walk out, all eyes on me, but I ignore them.
I make my way towards the lake and sit down on the soft sands. I sit in silence for a few minutes before the water in front of me begins to ripple and Caspian appears from the depths. "What brings you out here today?"
"I'm just thinking about the past... How am I suppose to know that it's going to repeat itself and let it happen anyway. Even if we help just a little bit. It will go a long way."
"You know, your parents didn't always follow every order Aslan gave. And all the magical creature respected them for it. You are in a very special position where you don't have to choose between the creatures and the wizards. You are a part of both and therefore have both to back you up. More creatures will follow you than you might think." He glances quickly behind me and disappears quickly beneath the surface.
Soft footstep in the sand sound behind me. "I can always find you out here." Draco sits down next to me. "Xavs looking for you, after somebody told him you left in the middle of DADA. He's worried sick about you."
"I can always count on the lake to make me feel better. It's calmness." I sigh and lay my head on his shoulder. "I've never seen you miss any classes."
"I'm books ahead of where we are in class so I'm good for a bit. I thought you would need someone to talk to." He lays his head on mine.
