I don't remember falling asleep until I hear pounding on the door for us to wake up. I open my eyes only to squint and cover my face with my comforter. "Cassie why do you insist on opening the blinds every morning at five in the morning?" I groan.
"Because natural light is good for the soul." I sit up and watch her straighten her pillows on her already made bed. Cassie is very pretty, she has long, dark, and curly brown hair, with bright green eyes. "You should get up, or you're going to go hungry for another 6 hours."
I slowly get up and get dressed. I go into the bathroom to brush my teeth and hair, then I throw my hair up into a neat bun. When I'm done Cassie and I head downstairs for breakfast. We bump into Barbara on the way downstairs, well she bumped into us, she shoves us both up against the wall. "What you said last night was uncalled for and I'm going to get my revenge whether it be today or in a few weeks." She snarled and I smirked.
"Oh my gosh what did you say to her?" Cassie asks.
"Oh hum well. She told everyone in her group that my parents were murdered." I say looking down at the floor. Not wanting to say the rest, not knowing why her parents left her here.
She gasps shocked. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I just found out yesterday. They wrote me a letter and told the headmistress not to give it to me until yesterday." I say as we walk towards the kitchen. When I open the door, the headmistress sneers at me knowing that I went to bed hungry, or so she thinks. There were pancakes on the table and bacon and fruit. Cassie and I sit at the end of the table where the fruit was.
She grabs the bowl of fruit and hands it to me first. I scoop some out and onto the plate. I reach for the bacon but Barbara smacks my hand away. I smile and retract my hand, to start eating the fruit on my plate I grab one pancake and eat that while talking to Cassie. Barbara frowns and starts to eat on absurd amount of bacon.
I finish the fruit on my plate and get up to put my plate in the dishwasher. I get over to the sink and look out the window. I see Sean and his daughter watching me, on top of Sean's head was a sandy colored owl, which I assume is Asha, I smile.
I turn away and sneak out of the kitchen when nobody is watching I turn down a hall and sneak out the back door. I bolt into the woods and go straight to the meadow. When I open up the vines I stop right in my tracks.
I see a man watching Sean's daughter splash in the stream with a kind smile on his face, as he strokes Sean's neck. His eyes twinkle as he smiles. "I know you're there. You can come out, I don't bite." I stand there shocked to the bone. I slowly step out in to the open. The man turns around and smiles brightly.
"Thea!!" He greets me, like he's known me my entire life. "You look so much like your mother."
"Y-you knew my parents?" I ask shakily. As he comes over and gives me a once over.
"Why yes. They were quite good friends of mine, actually." He turns back around to watch Asha do some tricks in the air. "This is for you my dear." He outstretches his hand to the side with an envelope in it.
"What is it?" I ask taking the letter from his outstretched hand. I see neat handwriting on the front of it. It reads:
Thea Emaline Carter
8301 St. Fran's home for girls
the meadowsIt was stamped shut by a seal that had four animals on it. One was a badger, another was a griffin , the third was a raven, and the last was a serpent, in the center was the letter H.
"It's your letter to go to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry." He says looking at me from the corner of his eye with mischief behind them. "You know full well what you are, we are just there to help you along with learning about the magic of it all."
