Chapter 1
The Calm of a Storm
Lysandra
Trees seemed to fly past me as I ran through the orchard. My hair whipped behind me as I tried to pick up speed. I felt him right at my heels, knew he was right behind me, and I knew he would overtake me instantly if I slowed for even a second. I raced around the trees trying to evade my pursuer. My bare feet flying across the uneven ground, through the underbrush of lush grass. I took a glance behind me and saw that I had gained some ground. If only I had enough time to climb a tree. My pursuer was fast so I couldn't let up my speed. Suddenly I felt arms reach around my middle and pull me to a dead stop, and hoisted into the air.
"Gotcha!" Caspian laughed. He held on tight, so I couldn't squirm out of his hold.
"CAS! Put me down!" Despite being upset that he caught me, I couldn't help but giggle.
"Not until you say the password!"
"What password? We've never had a password!" I chuckled again, I wiggled to get into a better position to try and struggle free.
"Oh, there's a password. You just can't remember it." Caspian teased. He readjusted his hold around my waist.
"Is it 'I love you' or something cheesy like that. You always manage to make the cheesiest passwords." I could no longer struggle against his broad arms.
"Lys, that is not fair. I may be cheesy but you can be just as corny. And no the password is not 'I love you' though those are true words." Caspian whispered against my neck making my skin tingle.
"Release me!" I said, "We have things to do and you holding me like this won't get them done any faster."
"Errands can be done at any time. Besides, mother isn't expecting us for a while. She figured this would happen."
"Obviously, but I do care about what your mother thinks of me. She is the sage of the clan. We need to obey her orders." I groaned. "Even though this is fun." I finally managed to worm my way out of Caspian's grip enough to touch the ground, grab his arms and flip him down in front of me.
"Ow!" Caspian glared up at me. "You know Lys, you can be a real ass sometimes."
"Good thing I'm yours." I smirked and held my hand out to help him up. Caspian got up and we continued walking through the orchard.
"Hey, maybe after we finish and report, we could go to our hideout?" Cas asked sheepishly.
"I don't see why not," I grinned at him. "We can go there after we finish our errands."
"Alright! What's first on our to-do list from the oh so powerful sage?" Cas was suddenly eager to run errands. I glanced down at the list Caspian's mother, Merrilora, had given me. It seemed rather simple as far as what we needed. Some simple roots for the healers, a couple of tomes that could be purchased in Aglirim, which wasn't too far from the orchard in Eodanor, and then we were to pick some fruit from the orchard trees.
"Looks like we should head into town first. We need to get some books, and then we will loop back here and get the herbs and fruit."
"Sounds good to me," Caspian smiled broadly at me. "Lead the way." I lifted the hood of my cloak to hide my pointed ears. Caspian was lucky to be only half-elf as his ears didn't point nearly as much and his hair had only reached his shoulders which was a normal length around humans. We soon reached Aglirim and I directed us toward the vast library that had almost every bit of knowledge about anything in Evrand.
