Chapter 14

The Beach

Lysandra

The sun peeked through the trees and shone brightly against my eyelids, stirring me to move so I could try and get the sun out of my eyes. The minute I tried to move, a searing pain shot through my body.

"Ow." I groaned and sat up. I rubbed my eyes and looked down to see a bloody, torn cloak piece wrapped around my leg. Upon second glance, I also noticed Caspian, curled behind me, sleeping soundly. I shook him gently, trying to wake him. He swatted at my hand and mumbled something I couldn't quite catch. I tapped his cheek with my finger, and he still wouldn't wake. I groaned, and turned my torso enough so I could forcefully push Caspian off the blanket, to which he rolled into the sand beneath the tent "and flung up wildly.

"Waah!!!!!!!!! Death is a construct of humanity!" He shouted. Caspian looked around the tent to find what just awoke him. His eyes landed on me and those same eyes lit up. "Lysandra!" He scrambled onto the blanket and hugged me fiercely.

"OUCH! CAS!" I yelled and pushed him back again.

"Oh, right! Your leg! Illine!" Cas shouted. "We need to change her dressings!"

"Why can't you do it Caspian!" Illine shouted from outside the tent. "The bandages are right next to you!"

"'Cause I don't know how to do it!"

"Yes you do. Don't be a baby!"

"Ugh, fiiiiinnnee!" Caspian rummaged around the tent looking for the items he needed. I just smiled at the pure stupidity of the boy I chose. He looked disheveled. His hair was poking up wildly and in an array of different directions, and his shirt hung loose as he rummaged around the tent. When he turned to come back toward me, I noticed he had some dried drool on the corner of his mouth that he had yet to wipe away. I couldn't help but let out a small laugh at how odd he looked compared to when I saw him so well put together in the markets of Aglirim.

"What?!" Caspian eyed me as he kneeled down and started unwrapping the dressings on my leg.

"You are just too good for this world, Cas." My smile grew as I watched him try to rewrap my leg, the way Illine had wrapped it before.

"What is that supposed to mean?" He didn't look up from his work as he carefully lifted my leg to continue wrapping it.

"Nothing dear, it means nothing." A small smile flicked across Caspian's mouth as he tied the new dressing in place. He stood and moved toward me.

"How's that?" He squatted down in front of me and placed a hand against my face. My face started to blush profusely, the fierce edge of his stare was only softened by his smirking face.

"Good, I think." My mind started to get fuzzy with his presence. Oh heavens above I just wanted to hide away in a dark hole to never come out of. I found my eyes drawn toward his lips, and tried very hard not to groan. Why does he do this to me?

"Did you get it changed Cas?" Illine said as she opened the tent up. Caspian drew away awkwardly and my cheeks burned a deep red.

"I-uh--" Caspian choked. "I think so." He quickly rubbed his hand against his neck. I glanced up at Illine, trying not to reveal that anything was going on, though it was clear something had indeed happened.

"Um...am I interrupting something?" Illine looked between the two of us.

"NO!" I shouted.

"YES!" Caspian shouted at the same time. We looked at each other and I immediately blushed again.

"Okay?" Illine shook her head and glanced at Caspian's wrapping job. "I told you that you could do it. We are getting ready to break camp whenever you guys are ready." Illine winked at me and I immediately put my face in my hands. She chuckled softly before she exited the tent.

"I can't exactly walk." I groaned. My cheeks were still hot.

"That's ok." Caspian said. He slid his arms under my knees and shoulders and picked me up in a swift motion. "I've got you." I wrapped my arms around his neck and he pressed his lips gently against mine. I felt tense, and then an immediate feeling of relaxation washed over me. He pulled away and I rested my head against his shoulder. He moved outside of the tent and Thelran and Alwine moved to gather the belongings from inside before taking it down. The beach we had camped on was gorgeous. The sand that was untouched by the water seemed to glitter like stars. The cliffs surrounding the beach were jagged, though they looked graceful as the trees blew gently with the calm breeze.

"Wow." I breathed.

"Alright," Alwine appeared at our side. "I believe the way to the library is that way, based on what the sorceress told us." He pointed up one of the cliffs.

"Well, we best get moving." Thelran's face was set with determination. "We have to find answers soon."
