We must erase every memory of the girl, Callan. If he remembers her, he will return to her. I need him. He is my heir. His mother will be dead and the girl will be wiped from his memory. Fail me and there will be consequences.

I awoke on a soft bed, tangled in covers, drenched in sweat. I sat up and groaned at the pain in my shoulder and side. What on earth had happened to me? There was a gasp and I glanced up through shaggy hair to see a man staring at me.

"Where am I?" I grimaced.

"You are in your father's palace, my lord." The man bowed before me. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Callan, your servant. I will inform your father that you are awake as soon as we make you presentable. Follow me, my lord." Callan stands up and starts to walk to the next room. I stood and my legs seemed to fold under me and I fell to the floor with a loud whump. Callan rushed back into the room and hurried to help me up.

"You have been in bed for many days. I should have realized you would need help." He led me into the next room and helped me into the basin that was filled with warm water. I stepped in and allowed Callan to clean my skin, cut my long, shaggy hair, and then help me dress. The clothes were much too puffy and so I picked out something more my speed. A thin linen shirt with a pair of leather trousers. After dressing, I followed Callan through the vast hallways of the palace until we reached what I assumed was the throne room. The man on the throne looked down at me and smiled an unusual smile.

"Good morning, my son! How do you fair?" The man had a loud booming voice.

"I am fine...father. Just unsure of how I got here."

"What do you mean son? You have been here your whole life. Do not fret, I am sure a walk about town will have you jogging your memory. Callan, go with my son and take him around town."

"Of course, Lord Silas Mordanticus." Callan bowed deeply and turned to me. "Come my lord! Let us be off." I followed Callan out into the town square, very confused.

"Where should we go first, my lord?" Callan asked me as we exited the palace.

"I would like to visit the library I think." I stated. "If memory serves, I've got an old friend that works there."

"Of course, my lord." Callan said and led the way. As soon as we reached the library I turned to Callan.

"Callan, I would like to go in alone. Perhaps you can go and fetch us something to eat on this adventure."

Callan looked at me suspiciously and said, "My lord, my apologies but it may not be a good time to leave alone when you are still very weak." I gave an apprehensive nod in agreement and we stepped into the library.

"Alwine!" I shouted instinctually and started towards the desk. What greeted me was definitely not a dwarf.

"Um, definitely not Alwine." Responded the voice behind the desk. I looked up and saw a dryad. Her pale green skin and dark green hair shimmered and she crossed her arms across her chest. "Can I help you?" Her voice was lilted and her eyes were black except for the milky-blue pupils that seemed to glare past me and through me. My confusion got the better of me.
