Marie POV
I quietly walked through my front door.
"Marriiiiee, is thaatt yoouuu?" I heard my mother slur from the living room. "Where did you hide all your money you bitch? I need it to buy the good stuff!"
"Mom you can't have my money, I need it for my medical bills."
"No, you little whore, I need to pay off Pablo. Give me the fucking money!" She got up from her chair with her eyes blazing. "Hand it over now!" She picked up a knife from the side table and came at me. She pinned me to the wall with the knife at my throat. "You're gonna run upstairs and get all your money from wherever you keep it. Hurry on now." She pushed me to the floor and I whimpered.
I rushed up the stairs and got all the hidden money and rushed back down the stairs to give it to her.
"Good little girl, now go run along, Pablo's coming." My eyes widened and I scurried up the stairs. Pablo is the man that sold my mother illegal drugs.
Shutting the door to my room I turned around, I needed to leave, I needed to go live with Clara.
Clara has her own place, both of us graduated from high school last year, but I skipped a grade, making her a year older than me. She went to the local college but didn't live on campus, she has a small apartment near there.
I looked around my room and started packing. It is October so I packed all my warm clothes among other necessities, including toiletries and my medicine and sentimental things that I couldn't leave alone with my mother.
*later that night*
I crept downstairs with my two bags, I'd come back for the rest some other time with Clara. Daisy, my dog whined from her pillow in the living room. That's when I knew I couldn't leave her to my mom's abuse. Setting my bags down I found her leash and her favorite toys along with her food.
I scratched my head realizing this would be difficult to take all this, so I decided to take the car, a jeep from a couple years back. It's not like my mom uses it anyways. Putting everything in the trunk I decided to grab a couple more things because I was taking the car. Daisy, a Great Dane, hopped into the back of the car and I drove off into the night.
*upon arrival*
I took the elevator up to Clara's flat, just taking Daisy with me for now. Stepping out of the elevator I walked over to her door. I knocked on it twice.
There was shuffling behind the door and then it was flung open, "Marie! What are you doing here?" She knelt down to let Daisy, "and why did you bring Daisy?"
"I couldn't stay there with mom anymore. Today she made me give her all of my money to feed her drug addiction. I have nothing left for the medical bills." Tears slowly fell down my face.
She ushered my inside and sat me down, "You're going to have to find some employment I reckon." I nodded into her shoulder.
"Can I stay here? I'll look through the newspaper tomorrow morning."
"Of course you can stay! Here let me pull out the mattress from the couch."
Once I was settled in I went to sleep with Daisy curled up on the floor.
