A/N: I stopped writing this back them but I wanna pick it up again.

Jackson woke up to the sound of footsteps. Somebody found them. They felt panic rise in their chest as they looked around frantically. They didn't see anybody but they knew that the person was still in the house. Jackson controlled themself and kept as quiet as possible. The door to the room they were in opened. This was it, they would be forced back and punished for their actions but a familiar face stepped through. It was Puppy, of course, she would be the one to find them. She was like a nail and they were a magnet and stared at them with a cold eye.
"So. This is where you ran off to." Her voice was soft. She got closer to them and sat on the ground. "Why?" She looked down at Shadow who was still asleep in Jackson's lap. Puppy looked back at Jackson who refused to look at her and instead only at Shadow. They were petting his head. "How bad? How badly do you have to care for someone in order to do this? ...Do you really love him or do you just depend on him?" Jackson wouldn't respond. The silence was suffocating. Puppy stood up. "Next time I find you I won't spare you." With that, she was gone. Jackson let all the air they'd been keeping in out. Small tears fell from their face. It was just them and Shadow now. They stared at Shadow's sleeping head and felt a calm warmth wash over them.

Shadow hadn't woken up in a while. It was a bit concerning to Jackson but they knew that Shadow was tired. Jackson didn't move from their assigned position as a pillow and instead stared into infinity. What would they do? If Puppy was able to find them then maybe the man's goons could as well but Puppy might have thrown them off their trail. If they did find them Jackson could take them on but they had been feeling bad lately. Perhaps, they were getting sick. It was nearly midday when Shadow woke up. Jackson had taken another nap waiting for Shadow to wake up. Shadow sat up and looked around. So it wasn't all a dream. His movement was enough to wake Jackson. Jackson rubbed their eyes and stared at the ground. They yawned and stood up, holding their hand out towards Shadow. Shadow took it and pulled himself up.
"What now?" Shadow asked stretching his tired bones. Jackson stared at the sheets on the ground.
"We have to leave the city. It appears to be midday so if we start now we can be at the nearest town by next morning." Jackson picked up the sheets and started folding them. "We can't leave a trace. Come on." Shadow stood frozen. Jackson's words echoed in his head. He wasn't all that familiar with areas outside the city. The closet where they had found the sheets creaked open and the sheets were put back. Shadow took a small breath and turned to face Jackson. They were looking out a window. Their eyes surveyed the surrounding area. "I think we should be good to go." Their eyes didn't move and when they finally did they were cold. "The light isn't gonna last long." Shadow nodded in response and hurried to Jackson's side.
"Do you want to run?" Shadow asked opening the front door.
"It seems like it's our best choice."

It was starting to get dark again and Shadow was running out of breath. They had already taken two breaks. Jackson slowed down their pace and looked for a shelter. Shadow was at that point running blindly making Jackson have to pull him to a stop. He nearly fell down from the pull.
"Shadow let's take a break. I'm tired." Shadow was gasping for air while trying to respond.
"Are... you... sure... we... should... stop?" Jackson nodded. They pointed at something in the distance. "We could try to see if we can hide. Come on. There are lights on so it looks like there might be people in there."
