"Hufflepuff!" The Sorting Hat roared as Oscar Rhodes jumped off the stool and made his way to the table on the left.
"This is taking forever." Harley groaned. "When can we eat?"
"Just wait." Amanda hissed. "There's only a couple more left."
"To think there are so many of 'em..." Lindsey said in wonder. "It's like they've duplicated!"
"It's because the birth rates decreased drastically during the War." I stated. "This is the first year group born after the War ended. That's why there's more."
"It's like you eat textbooks for breakfast!" Evelyn chuckled. "You should've joined Ravenclaw."
The five of us were in the Grand Hall for the Sorting Ceremony. Me and Amanda sat across Harley, Lindsey and Evelyn. I looked at all of my friends. 3 years ago, they all looked so different.
Lindsey used to have long and wavy golden-brown hair with large teeth. After getting braces for two years (which meant extra rude remarks from Ivy), she came back this year with perfect, petite teeth. Her hair changed also - it was now shorter and a darker shade of brown.
Amanda used to have a pointy chin, but over time, she grew into it. Her hair used to be dirty blonde, thin, and long, but after a trip to a French Salon during the holidays, her hair was wavy, thick and almost platinum.
Evelyn's appearance also varied. Like Amanda, her hair was also dirty blonde. But as she got older, her hair became a light caramel colour - she also cut it short at her shoulders, so it was now straight rather than wavy. Ev also lost her baby fat, and her chin became more defined.
Harley's hair looked more or less the same, except now it was less ginger and more auburn. She still had freckles and she had grown quite tall, her figure more definitive from all those Quidditch matches. Despite that, she looked much more feminine.
I guess even I changed. My hair was still how it was in first year - dark, big bangs, and bushy. Perhaps it was more wavier? And my jaw was more pointy. My lips were quite pouty too, probably from not opening my mouth a lot. I still liked the peace and quiet, after all.
My thoughts were cut short when Professor Dumbledore stood up and began his speech.
"Welcome back to another year at Hogwarts. I'd like to introduce some new teachers." He pointed at Hagrid. "Professor Hagrid will be teaching Care of Magical Creatures for third years and above."
Everybody gasped in shock, some snorted, and Lindsey clasped her hands in delight. She was the only one that took Care of Magical Creatures out of us, and it was her best subject. Professor Dumbledore coughed to regain attention.
"And i'd like to introduce you to our new Defence Against the Dark Arts Teacher - Professor Lupin."
Professor Lupin stood up, and it was then that I realised that he was the man on the train. I wondered if he would make a mediocre teacher, unlike our previous ones.
"Another thing I would like to point out is that due to the escape of Sirius Black, the Ministry has decided to employ the Dementors, to... protect you all. They will be located around the grounds of Hogwarts. Now... let us feast!" Dumbledore said joyfully and with a wave of his wand, piles of food appeared on all tables.
Harley instantly dove in, as we all began to chatter. We were all excited to explore the castle again. We also wondered when we would be allowed to visit Hogsmeade.
Soon, the feast was over, and it was time to go to the Common Room. As I was about to get up, Professor McGonagall suddenly called my name. I spun around to see her and Hermione Granger. Blinking in confusion, I asked if there was something wrong.
