The Kiss of Betrayal

Chapter 4

I look out the window of the jet thinking about my family. I miss them so much that it kills me, but I have responsibilities to do. I worried that we won't get Cal back and everything we have worked for will be gone. Why did this happen to me. It could have been anyone else but no it had to be me. I mean I'm grateful for meeting a lot of my friends that will stay with me forever. But what would life be if I wouldn't have found Cal, if I didn't get a job as a servant, if I would have gone to the bloodiest war ever. If I wouldn't have found out my lightning. Evangeline got me out of my trance by talking about our plan even though we don't really have one.
"Ok so here is what we are going to do. There are guards everywhere so me, Peyton( one of the new bloods that can control metal just like Evangeline), and Logan( he can control water) will take care of the guards. Mare, you, Farley, and Aaron(a new blood that can creat fire) will go look for Cal. Everyone be safe and don't let anyone catch you this is a fail or success mission so keep your guard up."

I look at the floor the whole time. I can't stop thinking about how Kilorn betrayed me. That little bitch I trusted him. I told him everything. He was the one person I could trust when my brothers were away. I couldn't even talk to Gisa. He was the only one that would listen to me rant, help me and comfort me. I don't even realize Evangeline is standing in front of me trying to get my attention.

"Mare snap out of it! We are here there is no time to have a breakdown now!" She shakes me and I finally snap out of it. " sorry I was thinking again." I look up at her. She has pity in her dark black eyes. Like she is telling me that it will be ok and we will get him back. I stand up from my seat and start to walk out of the jet. We decided to land in the woods so we won't get caught. Good thing I'm wearing camouflage pants, a black long sleeve active shirt, and jet black combat boots that goes up to my shins. Or else someone might see me. I can't say Evangeline is blending in with her black leather jacket with a black tank top under it, black pants and, black combat boots since they all have shiny metal pieces everywhere. Farley, Peyton, Logan, and Aaron are all wearing the same thing like Evangeline just with out the metal pieces.
   
         "Now or never guys." Farley whispers to us. We creep closer to the castle. We all walk on light feet so the guards won't hear us. Evangeline, Peyton, and Logan creep around to the side of the castle. Farley, Aaron, and I stay behind until the Coast is clear. I stand behind a tree. I peak around to see if I can spot Evangeline giving us a signal.

           But what I see instead of Evangeline stops my heart. I start to curse under my breath. Those cold icy blue eyes are digging into my skin. Of corse Maven has to be in front of me. He is wearing a black suit with metals across his chest. A red cape with black trimming. And a crown above his head.
    
             "Hello again Mare long time no see." He smirks at me. On instinct I shock him with lightning. He falls to the ground and twitches. I look at Farley, and Aaron and nod. We run towards the castle. My lightning sparks up and down my arms, and legs. I shock anyone that gets in my way. My legs are already tired, but I keep pushing. My blood is pumping. Heart racing. We run through the throne room, Farley is ahead of me and Aaron. Aaron burns anyone who is in his way. We run downstairs I almost trip but I recover quickly. We make it to Cal's cell. He is all beaten up. His shirt is torn. He has one eye swollen, a cut across his chest, a deep cut along his left leg. He is still bleeding from his chest as blood runs down to the ground. His hair is all messy. Still he gets up when he sees us.

    " Mare." He coughs. "I'm here. Everything is going to be ok Cal don't worry we will get you out of here." I look at him in the eyes. He meets my gaze. Aaron walks up to the bars and burns them. I walk through the hole in the bars and helps Cal up. He leans his weight against me as I help him limp through the hole. Evangeline Peyton, and Logan are all beaten up but alive. We all run towards the jet. I let Cal go in first. Then Farley, Evangeline, Peyton, Aaron, then Logan. I start to walk up the ramp. Then all of a sudden I feel a pain in my stomach. This is a pain I have felt before but I can't even think. Spots start to take over my vision. I feel light headed. Then all goes black.
