Melissa's POV
Frantically packing my bags, Kylan wailed loudly and squirmed in his car seat. I stopped what I was doing and tried to calm him down quickly. "Shh, baby. Everything is ok. Mommy just needs to get some things and then we are going to get out of here" I said and kissed his cheek. He calmed down a bit and I returned packing some of our necessities. I knew I needed to get out of here before James got back. My heart pounded in my chest as I knew he could get here any second. I hurriedly shoved things inside the bag.
"MELISSA" I heard a voice shout throughout the penthouse. It was a voice I knew all too well and it sent shivers down my spine. I cursed to myself and quickly zipped my duffle bag. His heavy footsteps thumped closer and closer by the second. A lump formed in my throat and I braced myself for the worst. Our master bedroom door swung open revealing a visibly enraged man. His eyes bucked and the veins in his neck stuck out. Scared wouldn't even begin to describe how I felt in this very moment.
Our eyes met and my entire body became paralyzed from fear. He charged towards me and grabbed a handful of my hair then dragged my body out of the room. "STOP IT! JAMES!" I shouted as I kicked and screamed. Trying to pry his hands from my hair, I failed miserably. Tears streamed down my cheeks as the pain became unbearable. James dragged me into the next room and let go once I was in front of the guest bed. I curled up into a ball while crying my eyes out. He pulled off his suit jacket and loosened his tie before kneeling in front of me. Avoiding his eye contact, I put my head down between my knees.
His breathing was quick and heavy. "Look at me" he demanded in a low tone. Trembling from fear, I slowly looked up at him and was met with a hard fist to my left eye. "AHHH" I screamed from the pain and quickly covered my eye with my hand. He stood up and looked down at me as if he were amused. "Don't you ever put your fucking hands on me or disobey me again" he spoke sternly then turned to walk out of the room.
My eye throbbed profusely and I knew it was going to bruise. I sat there cradling my eye thinking about how my life got to this point. A man that I changed my entire life for and loved whole heartedly keeps hurting me like this. It didn't make any sense. Gathering the little strength that I had, I managed to rise to my feet. I walked into the bathroom and flicked on the light, immediately cringing at the sight of my swollen and bruised eye. Lightly touching the bruised area, I flinched from the pain and stared at myself in the mirror.
Kylan's cry broke me from my trance-like state and I quickly left out of the bathroom and back into the room. James stood there rocking our son back and forth trying to calm him down. "Daddy loves you, son" he cooed while kissing his forehead. Trying not to be heard, I slowly walked towards my packed duffle bag. He turned and looked at me with dark eyes. "I know you don't think your leaving this house" he snapped. "James I-I can't stay here. Look what you did to my face" I sobbed while pointing at my swollen eye.
"I don't give a fuck about your eye. Your dumb ass should have never put your fucking hands on me. I bet you won't do it again" he chuckled and set our son down on the bed then surrounded him with pillows. "I think we just need a few days to cool out" my voice shook and trembled with each word that I spoke. He scoffed then walked towards me causing my body to tense up. "And I think I just said you ain't going no-fucking-where" James said clenching his fists.
