*Maddie's POV*
"Babe I'm hungryyyyy!" Hayes whined.

"Then get up off your ass and get something." I joked.

"Well damn. You get nothing then."

"What I meant to say was wow uhh your so amazing and awesome!!" He chuckles.

"That's more like it. Let's go get something baby girl." I freaking love it when he calls me that.
We walked with our hands laced together to the ice cream shop.

"Babe what do you want?" Hayes asked me.

"Chocolateeeee!" I say excitedly.

"Ahhhh young love." the cashier said.

"Oh... ummm.. we're uhh not really a-a couple." I said nervously and awkwardly.

"Well why not? You two are very cute cute together!"

"Thanks." Hayes said. But he had a blank expression on his face. Like I couldn't read him if he was a book. As we got our ice cream, I walked out before him and heard the lady whisper "you better hop on that train mr" and I laughed to myself.

We were walking and it was really awkward. Our hands were no longer laced together. In fact, we weren't touching at all. Not shoulder to shoulder or anything. It was really depressing.

*Hayes POV*
On the way back from our little ice cream trip, I didn't hold Maddie's hand or even touch her. Because I realized something: we weren't a couple. We weren't dating. She wasn't my girlfriend. I shouldn't be taking advantage of her like this. I need to ask her out.

I stopped dead in my tracks. She kept walking then realized I wasn't walking and turn around.

"Hayes? What's wrong?" She said.

"Maddie I can't do this anymore."

"What?" She looked hurt. Really hurt.

"I mean I can't go another second without you being my girlfriend. I was taking advantage of you by holding your hand and kissing you when we're not dating. But in my mind, we were. So can we make that real? Maddie Lawley, will you be my girlfriend?"

*Maddies POV*

Well this is happening.

"YES HAYES!!" I ran up to him and hugged him so tight.

"Thank the lord." he whispered into my hair.

"Your getting soft Grier!" I joked.
