I Got That Sinking Feeling

"We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced"

───────────────

Three knocks on the door with Emma's voice echoing into my room.

"Sorry I barged in like this but we're both running a bit for dinner so I had to come and get you before Miss Peregrine starts getting mad."

I was still afraid to speak so yet again, I just went back to the basics nodding my head up and down.

"Okay. So I see you're still in your clothes from a few hours ago. Just make sure they don't get dirty tonight and i'll ask Miss Peregrine for some clothes that you can wear tomorrow."

"Now come on! Let's get going."

She puts her hand out to me and I grab it. As we're heading out of my room I can hear the sounds of children's voices, from laughter to talking.

───────────────

"Miss Peregrine, Josephine and I have arrived"

"Oh good, come and sit down. Emma you sit where you normally sit and Josephine you sit across from Enoch."

Not knowing where I should sit and who Enoch was, I just stood there waiting for someone to tell me who this boy was and where I should sit.

"Sorry you don't know who Enoch is. He is the boy with the grumpy face" Emma tried not to laugh as she said while looking at Enoch

"Why thank you Emma" Enoch glared at her with eyes looking like he's ready to kill

I really didn't want to be sitting by Enoch when he looks at Emma like that. What happens if he stares at me like that, I can't do anything to stop him and I neither can say anything as that might be cause to make him more upset..

My thoughts got interrupted with Miss Peregrine who just finished introducing me to the children who were sitting around the table.

"I'm sure that everyone heard what I just said but if you didn't. Let's all welcome Josephine with open arms into our family, if you need any help my dear don't hesitate to ask anyone."

"Good we've got that sorted out, now can we please eat. Our dinners are getting cold." Enoch nearly screamed out the words

"Yes Enoch is right, but that isn't the right way to say it though. Everyone, dig in!" Miss Peregrine raised her hands as a sign of yes

Everyone started to dig in but I didn't want to touch my food. The reason why I wanted to was because of my mask. I sure as hell didn't want to lift it up and show the world my ugly face. I would rather get known as the nice calm girl and not the girl with the ugly burnt face who looks like a goblin. So I just sat there not moving a muscle hoping I would be excused from dinner and hopefully this world entirely.

"Miss... You don't see anyone else wearing well, a mask. So why is she. Why does she get special permission" Enoch demanded while he just gave a dead stare look towards me

"ENOCH! ENOUGH. Sorry children you had to see me get mad. But Enoch that is far enough, and that is not a way you speak to our new arrival. Josephine has a condition called Agoraphobia. It causes panic attacks from which the person feels like they can't escape. Now...

"Miss Peregrine is she having one of those episodes now?" the little girl with curly hair spoke up causing all eyes to fall upon me.

I could feel my heart rate rapidly rise, hands sweating trying to breath in and out like Mrs Graves taught me. But thinking about Mrs Graves makes me feel worse then I wanted to be. Flashbacks of the children screaming while the Hollows picked them up in their tentacles with blood spurting out of their now decapitated bodies made the waterworks turn on. I tried to hide my fear behind a mirage called my mask but it didn't work. I couldn't handle it any longer so I got up from my chair and started making a b line towards the safety of my bedroom
