"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up"

-Abraham Lincoln

Running up the staircase nearly tripping on every step I rushed into my room with my eyes running down my face like a waterfall, my body landed on the bed with a thud.

I can't go back there ever again with all those eyes on me and I just don't know what to do any longer. Beginning to close my eyes, a sound woke me up. A creaking door sound and as I looked up to see where the noise was coming from, there was Enoch with his head peeking out

"So I know you don't talk, but i'm sorry for what I said to you at the dinner table. I hope you will forgive me" Enoch struggled to get his words out

All I gave him back was a cold hearted stare

"Well it looks like you don't want to talk to me, I mean I don't know how you would after what I've done. But I will say one last thing before I leave, how about we make a deal?"

With my interested raised how could I not say no

"Here's my deal, how about you don't talk to me and I don't talk to you, we don't look at each other and we keep to ourselves. Deal?" With his hand out to mine I shaked it thinking that this was a good start to my stay here. But not to my knowledge this wasn't going to be a fun stay. As Enoch walked out the door I laid my head down onto my soft pillow my eyes closing, dreaming about the next day to come

New morning, new day and new opportunities! The sun was shining bright in the sky onto my once smiling face. Looking back on last night I do hope Enoch kept his promise like i'm keeping mine.

This morning before breakfast Miss Peregrine told me to go and meet some of the children and make a small conversation with them. I told myself I could do it but that all came crashing down once I'm outside staring at everyone. The two twins were fighting over a stuffy old teddy bear, Millard and Hugh rushing around with a ball enjoying their game of soccer while bees were swarming around him, Enoch probably off sulking who knows where and Emma was standing underneath with a rope in hand looking skywards. There was a big tall oak that looked just perfect to sit underneath with a book and quill in hand. I took off with high hopes.

Dear Diary

March 23rd 2020

Looks like I'm back dear old dairy, these last few days have been hard, with the feeling of everyone's eyes on my back every second of every day. I know that there's going to be a day where all my worries leave but till then i'm just stuck, stuck in this miserable loop called home.

So much for making friends. Everyone's been so nice to me all apart from one, Enoch. I really don't know what his problem is, I've tried to be nice and kind. But all I've gotten from him was a grunt and his death stare. Speak of the devil, you'll never guess who's looking this way

ENOCH'S POV

Speaking to Horace about our plans this afternoon. My eyes keep glancing over towards Josephine's direction. She's a mystery waiting to be discovered, what secrets is she hiding behind that mask, is she really who she says she is?

"Enoch, Enoch! Are you even listening to me?" Horace yelled trying to get my attention

"Oh yes, sorry what were you saying? While I was trying to act like nothing happened, I couldn't keep my eyes from Josephine

"Doesn't matter what I was talking about before. This matters now, why were you looking at Josephine for... You like her don't you?" Those words "You like her" actually made me stop and think to myself. Do I actually like her? I mean if I do, I could be known as the tough boy who fell for the new girl. And I really don't think I could handle that. But the true question is. Does she like me back?

"Horace. I've decided. I'm going to go over to her and talk to her"

"Good luck Enoch!" Horace quietly said to me as I walked over to her with high hopes hoping to say the right words.

JOSEPHINE'S POV

I just finished writing when the sun was blocked out by a figure looming over me. I shut my book hoping no one would see what I've written, with my eyes skywards I could see no one but the devil himself.

"What do you want" the words went barley above a whisper

"What was that?" his voice was deep, dark and very scary

I gave him no response

"Any who I was coming over here to ask you to." Stop being so annoying."

With that said and done he walked away with only leaving me with a strange feeling

ENOCH'S POV

Oh my lord why did I do that, all I wanted was to say something nice to her but now she's going to be put off. I'll just have to see what's in store for the future
