Lately I've been on a roller coaster
Tryna get a hold of my emotions
But all that I know
Is I need you close

"You've been thinking," Kenneth finally spoke as he closed the door behind him and Rin after entering her office. "About the kid."

Rin had been extra quiet after Ezra's execution. Unusually quiet. And there was a distance look in her eyes that caught Kenneth's attention. It was his job to know her and tend to her so he couldn't help but bring it up.

"No," Rin simply answered as she sauntered toward her desk in the darkness. She stood in front of her desk and tapped on the glass surface with her long nail as she stared out the window. "I am thinking about my daughter. She surprised me."

"You expected the kid to kill him." Kenneth shed his suit jacket and laid it over his arm as he remained by the door. "The fact that he didn't means your plan to get rid of him has been derailed."

Rin sighed, her tapping fingernail speeding up with her thoughts. "Zoe said she didn't want the boy I would turn Teddy into. That means she didn't want him to be a killer and I thought getting Teddy to kill Ezra would push Zoe away from him. She was suppose to be terrified and appalled and run from him on her volition. But she killed Ezra herself.... I wonder what went through that pretty little head of hers when she snatched your gun off you."

"If I had to guess, knowing Zoe, she is so in love with the boy that she thought killing Ezra herself would save Teddy somehow. She is terrified of you hurting him," Kenneth offered as a theory.

"How would taking his kill from him save him? If she keeps sabotaging him, he will become less useful to me. Stealing his pin, killing Teddy's target... She keeps getting in his way. Wouldn't that prompt me to hurt him? Because he keeps failing." Rin asked as she turned around to lean back against her desk and cross her arms over her chest. Even in the darkness, Kenneth could see a clear frown painted across Rin's face.

Kenneth hesitated to speak but he knew he would have to. They were already too far into this conversation to turn around now. He just didn't feel right letting Rin into Zoe's head when that girl was so guarded already. And Carmen would certainly be disappointed in him if she knew how cooperative Kenneth was with Rin. He should be leading her astray so Rin didn't mess with Teddy or Zoe anymore, but Kenneth knew better. Any ounce of defiance and he would end up eaten by sharks in the middle of the ocean just like Ezra.

"That is Zoe's attempts to save him. Stealing his pin was like cutting your ties to him. Stealing Teddy's kill tonight was to push you to throw him away. Even if you punish him for failing and then toss him to curb, that would be less painful that keeping him here for the rest of his life. And that's what Zoe is trying to save him from. Zoe is going to keep stepping between you and Teddy until you give up on him because she knows what this line of work is like. She knows it's dangerous and she doesn't want Teddy trapped here like the others."

"Nobody is trapped here. If they wanted to leave, they would. The only problem is that none of them are strong enough to," Rin spat in retort.

Kenneth gave a simple nod and let his eyes linger on his shoes. Rin's logic was always twisted but she believed her twisted ways so truly that they couldn't be questioned so he simply agreed with her. He felt trapped, but that wasn't something he would ever say out loud. It wasn't all bad, of course. Kenneth enjoyed getting to live in luxury and travel the world and never have a care in the world.

The only problem was that he didn't have anything to care about because Rin wouldn't allow it. Her, her family, and her business were the only things that made up his purpose in life and that is what made him feel trapped.
