Cody knew that the only way to stop this was destroy the gene modifier. As Rena slept, Cody tried to formulate a plan. She had to get Rena back to a safe place. For a while, she debated whether to take her back home with her or keep her here. But in the end, Cody decided keeping Rena here would be dangerous, but it wouldn't affect the timeline. Bringing someone from the future could really mess it up. She could destroy the gene modifier here or back home. But doing it home could save millions of lives and prevent hundreds of lives to be taken. It was riskier here, anyways. The sun was rising, indicating that Cody had spent about 12 hours here. Cody tapped her chip, and found out that almost an entire day had passed there. She commed Alexis with a small message saying that she was okay. Cody had to find that old clothes store again. She decided she would drop Rena off there, as the store was empty. All Rena had to do, was live a day or two there, before the outcomes of the future would change. All it would take was a couple of moments for Cody to destroy the gene modifier, and Rena would be living a happy normal life, and none of this would've actually happened. It sounded easy. It was obviously not.
Rena's eyes fluttered open as the morning sunrays fell on her face. Cody's arm was extremely sore, and she had burnt skin where the laser had touched, but she could live with it and that's all that mattered. She felt bad for putting work on Rena's shoulder's as soon as she woke up, but it was the question of survival. Her father would've sent robots after them to, maybe at this point, kill them. She sighed. Everything was fine until her mother had died. Cody got up, shook Rena awake who had fallen asleep again. This girl was just like her.
"Wake up, Rena. We have to get moving." Rena did what she was told, as after a bit of repairing here and there, they were able to get the ship in decent enough condition to fly, they headed to the city. After about 45 minutes, they could see the shops from above. Around the buildings, Rena's and Cody's pictures were captured and were put up for WANTED. Cody smirked. About time, huh. They dove right into the garage, knocking many things over. Cody quickly opened the door and jumped out and helped Rena get off. As they hid behind the ship, Cody looked through the glass to see the situation outside. The dress shop was on the other side of the street. All they had to do was cross the street without getting noticed. And killed. Most likely, they were robots roaming around the streets, on the lookout for the two girls. Cody was proved right when two robots, a bit larger than last time, came down on the street and were turning their heads 360 degrees. When their eyes fell on the ship, Cody ducked, pulling Rena down too, who let curiosity get the best of her. Cody was panting. If watching was this hard, crossing the street would be something unimaginable. Cody and Rena inched forward, crouching, with their guns in their hands.
"Hey Rena, do you still have that knife that came along with the guns."
"Yeah, I have it in my belt."
"Can you give it to me?"
Rena nodded and tossed the knife to Cody. Cody fastened it into her belt. They each divided and went to the opposite walls, with their backs against it, careful not to come in sight. When they were at the either sides of the door, Cody took one long look at Rena. Her daughter. This was it.
"Rena. I need you to be careful. Shoot any robots that you can shoot. I'll use my knife and my gun. Just run, run for the entrance and then we'll be fine. Ok? Look at me. Ok?"
"Ok." She looked into Cody's eyes and nodded. Cody gave her a weak smile, not knowing what was going to happen next. Together they pushed open the gate and ran.
