Being the vice-captain and setter for my schools volleyball club during high school was my life. More so, after I graduated I ended up moving in with one of my teammates since we were attending the same college.
Life differed after high school. Of course, we still played volleyball, but it was different without the team we were used to. It was like our family had been torn apart as we all went our separate ways. Don't get me wrong, we all still kept in contact, but it was hard to adjust to new players standards for a while. Being able to still set to my Ace though is what kept me on my feet.
"Bokuto-San!" His name left my lips as I set the ball in his direction. A heavy sigh left my lips as time seemed to slow. I watched him jump into the air and bring his hand against the ball before it whipped over the net and down onto the base of the gym, scoring us a point.
"Did you see that, Akaashi?! Did you!?" He was like a child, bouncing around as he pumped his fist in the air. I rolled my eyes, holding back a small smile,
"Yes, Bokuto-San. I definitely saw it. Good job."
Praise boosts his ego, and seems to actually make him play more effectively. Ever since we became teammates in high school, I've been the only one who has known how to handle his mood swings. Which brings us to one of the main reasons of why I had moved in with him.
Practice seemed to end faster than usual. I decided to skip changing, as I planned on taking a shower once I arrived home anyway. No point in dirtying more clothes.
I slung my bag over my shoulder and waited by the door for Bokuto, shoving my hands into my front pockets in the process. It wasn't long before he came running out, a huge grin plastered on his lips,
"Hey hey hey! Let's go!" Ah, it was nice seeing him happy majority of the time. Life at home is always more loud and yet peaceful when he has a good day. When he gets into his rather foul mood though, those are the days I'd love to just block him out. Yet, I care for the owl haired boy, and so I put up with him.
"Hey, Bokuto-San, were you planning to go to the party that Kuroo invited you to?" I gazed at him just slightly. I'm pretty clumsy, and knew if I looked entirely at him, I would easily lose my footing, and believe me, I did not want to be put in that situation of him laughing at me the entire night.
"You mean the party WE were invited to? It's our old friends, so yeah of course I'm gonna go, you're coming too right? I think Kuroo got Kenma to agree to go, so maybe you guys could hang out." He shrugged his shoulders as he picked up his pace a bit, probably more excited to get home and get ready more than anything.
"Knowing Kuroo, he's forcing Kenma to go, believe me when I say it's impossible for Kenma to want to go anywhere!" This time I let out a small laugh after I spoke. Bokuto looked at me slightly amused and then licked over his lips,
"Yeah, you're probably right. C'mon, will you go with me tonight?" His voice was soft, as if that didn't make my heart flutter more than it does when he looks at me. I turned my head away from him, trying to hide the rose colored cheeks I now possessed.
"Yeah, fine. I'll go." The response came out more mumbled than expected, but Bokuto pumped his fist in the air and ran the last block home happier than a kitten with a q-tip. I let out a loud sigh I didn't realize I was holding back, a breath of relief more like. I rubbed my temples and continued to walk the final block home.
Upon entering, Bokuto was nowhere in site. I took this as my opportunity to go shower and get ready.
Letting the warm water hit my back, my eyes fell shut as I massaged the shampoo into my hair. There's no way I blushed at the fact that Bokuto asked me to go to the party with him. I was invited too, so why was it when he said something I felt the need to just scream "yes". The truth I kept denying was that there was some type of feelings for him that I had contained deep in my heart. I rinsed my hair out, letting the thoughts fade down the drain with the soap. It's nothing I should be thinking about right now, he is my friend, only my friend.
