Thor and Zara jumped up on the cradle. The god thrust his hammer in the air, summoning a lightning bolt. Zara sped up as well, and the two sent a frenzy of electricity cascading into the empty vibranium body.
Everything went silent when they stopped. The Avengers inched closer to the cradle, only for Thor and Zara to be sent flying across the room when a tall, red body emerged. Zara stood up defensively, taking out one of her swords. Just in case.
The vision lunged at Thor, who stepped to the side which sent the robot through a couple glass walls. He stopped abruptly, hovering in midair as he looked through the window.
Steve started to approach him, but Thor stopped him, holding up his hand.
No one said anything as the maroon body admired his reflection in the window. He clothed himself in gray, and Thor put his hammer down as the robot turned and revealed his face. "I'm sorry, that was... odd." The robot nodded to Thor and Zara. "Thank you."
"Thor," said Steve as the robot gave himself a cape. He was so... humanlike. Too humanlike. "You helped create this?"
"I've had a vision. A whirlpool that sucks in all hope of life, and at it's center is that," Thor said, pointing to the glowing yellow stone in the andriod's forehead.
Zara sheathed her sword. "Great idea to have it here then, so it can start with us?"
Thor eyed her ambigously, then turned to the rest of the team. "This is the mind stone. It's one of the six infinity stones, the greatest power in the universe, unparalleled in its destructive capabilities."
"Then why would you bring it'-" Steve started.
Thor wasted no time. "Becasue Stark is right."
"Oh, it's definitley the end times," Banner quipped.
"The Avengers can not defeat Ultron," said Thor.
"Not alone." The robot started towards the Avengers, but Steve remained skeptical.
"Why does your vision sound like Jarvis?"
"We reconfigured Jarvis's matrix to create something new."
"I think I've had my fill of new."
"You think I'm a child of Ultron." The vision's voice took up the space of the entire room, captivating his audience. I'm not Ultron. I am not Jarvis, I am... I am."
"I looked in your head," Wanda said, "and saw annihilation."
"Look again."
Clint came up from wherever he was and scoffed. "Her seal of approval mans jack to me."
Zara had to agree.
"Their powers, the horrors in our heads, Ultron himself, they all came from the mind stone," Thor said. "And they're nothing compared to what it can unleash. But with it on our side-"
"Is it? Are you? On our side?"
The andriod shook his head. "I don't think it's that simple."
"Well it better get real simple, real soon."
"I am on the side of life," said the robot. "Ultron isn't. He will end it all."
"Then what's he waiting for?" Tony asked.
"You."
"Where?"
"Sokovia," Clint answered. "He's got Nat there, too."
Bruce walked up to the vision. "If we're wrong about you, if you're the monster that Ultron made you to be..."
"What will you do?" asked the robot.
Bruce didn't look back as he pointed to Zara. "She'll kill you."
He walked past Bruce, ignoring the last remark. "Ultron is unique. And he is in pain. But that pain will roll over the Earth. So he must be destroyed. Every form he's built, every trace of his presence on the net. We have to act now. And not one of us can do it without the others."
He looked at his hands. "Maybe I am a monster. I don't think I'd know if I were one. I'm not what you are, and not what you intended. So there may be no way to make you trust me. But we need to go."
The vision turned around, picking up Thor's hammer and reaching it to him. The god looked around, embarrased that the robot could carry it with such ease and taking it from him warily.
"Right, well done," Thor said, patting Tony's back and following the vision.
"Three minutes," Captain comanded. "Get what you need.
The team dispersed to their respective stations. Clint stocked up on arrows, Pietro picked out a nice pair of shoes. Zara didn't need anything, she was always prepared for a fight. So she trailed Wanda and rummaged in a closet next to her.
"Hey," she said, picking up one of Natasha's red jackets and tossing it to Wanda forcefully. She took it, inspected it, and looked back to Zara, confused. "Peace offering."
---
The Sokovians were in for a nasty day. Groups upon groups flooded into the streets, waiting for some sort of direction. Priority was getting them out.
But to Zara, priority was ending Ultron.
"Hey Keaton, I'm at the church. It's where our guy is. I could use back up, but stay hidden."
Zara would give Tony back up, but she would definitely not stay hidden. They arrived there at the same time, unable so see Ultron. "I told you to stay hidden."
"Yes, you did. But the thing is... no."
Tony scoffed. "Do you have to act like you're better than people, like, all the time?"
"Not acting, Stark.""Come to confess your sins?" Ultron asked from somewhere they couldn't see.
"I don't know, how much time you got?"
"More than you." The crack of a wall followed, where Ultron had broken through it.
Zara unsheathed both her swords. "I must say, you got a knack for dramatic entrances."
"Uh, have you been juicing? Little vibranium cocktail? You're looking... I don't want to say puffy."
Ultron groaned. "You're stalling to protect the people."
"Well, that is the mission. DId you forget?"
"I've moved beyond your mission. I'm free." The ground rumbled momentairly, sending a large metal device through it. "What? You think you were the only one stalling? This is how the Avengers end. Its how the whole world ends. This is peace in my time."
"It's the rest of the vibranium," Tony mumbled to Zara.
Screams echoed from the city around them. Ultron's bodies emerged from someplace underground and started attacking people with guns and lasers. Tony blasted off, leaving Zara alone with Ultron.
"This is my grand plan," he said, admiring the robots. "And do what you will, but in the end you're just a dead girl running."
"Ultron," came a mechanical voice from above. Vision decended, flashing Zara a small nod. He could handle Ultron from here.
Zara took off through the (still very populated) streets of Sokovia. "I thought you got them all out of here," she said when she found Steve.
"We were trying," he said, impaling a robot with his shield. "Something got in the way."
"Oh, you mean these fuckers?" she said, impaling one with a sword and ripping its arm out. "Look, Ultron kebab."
"Ah ah ah, you gotta watch the language around Cap," Tony said over the comms.
Steve laughed tiredly.
"Did I miss something?"
"Yeah, to say the least."
