No matter how hard she tried, Amani Carmichael tried not to overthink her current situation. Well, of course, the thought of her parents worried sick and possibly searching for her frantically through the whole city went through her mind. But her current situation was currently occupying the thought.
"Oh come on, Amani. If you think others are staring because you're hanging out with me, it's because you look like a celebrity overdressed to hide from the paparazzi."
Amani took off her butterfly-shaped black sunglasses and placed them down on the cafe table. "Even after retail therapy shopping, I'm not going to. You're lucky you got to experience the whole tour of the Guess outlet with me because I needed clothing for my stay for the next few days. By the way, my parents haven't found me yet, that's strange..."
In some ways, she didn't want to be found. In others, she did. It was unusual for the likes of Amani, she either picked one way or the other. Inside she wanted to avoid her parents' lovey-dovey attitude and not feel like such an outsider. It wouldn't have mattered to her back then if she wasn't a teen and knew of the magic of planting a seed in the garden, but she wasn't so innocent and little anymore. The thought of staying in Estella Worth's luxurious penthouse nearly made her gag, but she didn't have any other ounce of energy to ask anyone else. Besides, she could decide for herself. It was just both of the situations had both pros and cons in her mind.
Then the other half of her brain was theorising if this was something she could keep up forever. When her parents did find out about her whereabouts, what would happen next? Surely, she's been ordered home and staying at Estella's wouldn't be an option anymore. She had to come up with a logical plan to back herself up. As much as she despised the other girl, she had to stay with Estella for as long as she possibly could.
"Your order is certainly not ordered at the regular here," Estella eyed her company's coffee on the table in front of them. "A triple shot cappuccino with extra foam, extra chocolate powder and soy milk. Of course, your coffee order is as extravagant as you are."
With that comment, Amani smiled and took it as a compliment. If anything, the barista had memorised it off by heart for her. That was if they wanted to keep their job, that was. There was nothing that a little threat couldn't harm and she simply wanted everything right. Especially for her first caffeine fix for the day. Sitting in Harriet's reminded her of the High Street Elite's regular meetups. Amani questioned her friends' presence at the local coffee shop but didn't want to wish her peacefulness away. Although she didn't want to admit it, Estella wasn't that bad of company. She was, however, the best of company when she kept her mouth shut.
