Chapter 7: Tokoyami wants to become dog food

//I'm sorry about the amount of band practices, I kinda tried getting some change with the last one but I don't really know. Things will start pulling forward soon once I get them something smart to do//

Friday
Bakugou had been dreading Friday since... Yesterday really. Just a week ago he hadn't thought he would be this insecure about singing in front of people. Sure, he had sang couple times at the last practice, but that didn't make the anxiety go away.

He knew he wasn't bad. He could stay in tune and hold a note pretty well and noticed when it didn't sound correct. He could saty in rythm, and actually reach quite high notes, despite his fairly low voice.

No, that wasn't the case. He was good, he knew. The problem was if he was good enough. The others were talented and experienced, Bakugou on the other hand had taught himself and played just for fun and... Yeah. Maybe this wasn't the best time to think about that.

"So, does anyone have any ideas what we should play? I tried thinking of something but... I'm not the best at suggesting songs I guess", Jiro rubbed the back of her neck sheepishly after everyone had arrived.

All eyes slowly turned to Bakugou as silence fell over the students.
"The fuck are you staring at!?" he shouted "Why would you think I have any interest in deciding the fucking song? I don't even wanna be here!"
"Well you kinda said there's no way of playing anything smart with the people in our school so we're kinda waiting for you to set out what's 'smart', Bakugou", Ashido said.
"The fuck is that supposed to mean, assrag? I couldn't care less. I'm fine with anything as long as it's an actual song and not the defenition of emo. Wouldn't be that surprising with this assembly."
Five pairs of confused eyes turned to him as another silence fell over them.

It was starting to turn awkward before it was interrupted with four very familiar notes.
"Tokoyami I swear to God do you want to end up as dog food", Bakugou turned his head around as the others burst out in a laughing fit.
"Dogs are nice. Why not", he chuckled.

"Okay how about we just throw in ideas and then see what see what we like?" Ashido suggested as the laughing calmed down.
"Yeah that sounds good."

"Well..." Kaminari started, a bit hesitant, after a while of no one saying anything "I've heard it few times but listened to the lyrics only a couple days ago. I guess... I guess it just reminds me of Bakugou and i can kinda see him singing it."
The boy reached for his phone as he spoke, searching the song and playing it.

Honestly speaking Bakugou quite liked the song and the lyrics really did make better.

"What is it called? Is there an acoustic version since that's pretty complicated to do with just what we have", Jiro asked.
"It's Choke by I Don't Know How But They Found Me and I think they do. Just a minute", Kaminari told and played another version.

"So. How do we feel about this?"
The students nodded quietly, most peeking glances at Bakugou.
"Bakugou, how about you?"
"It's fine, I guess", he grunted.

"Maybe we should try it out then", Jiro said, grabbing a pen and a piece of paper "I'll ask Hizashi to print us some notes so we can play it on Monday."
"Alrighty, let's continue with that then", Ashido hummed.

The rest of the practice was mostly them playing and joking around, but they did manage to play the song they had tried out last time. The difference was huge. Apparently they had all energy for the upcoming weekend and that had relieved a lot of the tension and that reflected on their confidence in playing and working with eachother. It felt... Relaxed. They were at ease. It was natural.
