I wanted to believe in the dream.
It was such a lovely dream...that I imagined Barnabas Collins's sharp teeth rip into my neck. And feed on my blood...and drink hungrily.
Yet, despite my nervousness, I denied him.
***
I vowed to do my job in Collinwood Manor. It was important to David to continue his lessons. Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, or Elizabeth, as I called her sometimes...though rarely...wasn't called 'M'Lady', but other names.
Roger Collins called her Liz.
This is because of the formal way he talked to her. And others. It was regal. And, yet, this was 1967; this wasn't 1867.

I walked down the gloomy hallways...past the drawing room...where I saw Josette's ghost. And I dared not tell anyone else, except David, and Carolyn.
Because they knew the truth.

Even if others pretended to do so, as the dark shadows crept up the freezing windows, and corridors, and secret passages that were supposed to be padlocked, but weren't due to the monsters that dwelled within the most horrible house in Maine. Where ghosts, demons, vampires, and werewolves lived. And the horror filled my endless days, and nights, attempting to deal with the madness. And, because of my dreams, the shadows reached out with their pale claws, and savaged me in the dark, and rendered my screams silent.

I wasn't used to the savage beasts outside. Nor the thunderstorms. Nor the grim news of deaths in town; nor the raging of Joe Haskell over his break-up with Carolyn Stoddard.
And am I to be blamed for the future?
No.

I grew up in a world of children who hadn't any parents.
Or, if they did have a Mom and Dad, did they love them? And, if they did so, why would they discard their sons and daughters? Did they desire to be free of having them around the house, like David Collins?...
...Did they vow, in haste, to bypass all laws to ruin their lives?...And so on.
*
It is my childhood that's erased from my memory.
It surfaces now and again when I saw Burke Devlin on that train. And saw Roger Collins near Widow's Hill.
And there's nothing more to say...
...Except to desire a truthfulness to my agonizing past...
...Before I leave here...and head back to New York.
***
All news of my birth...(as I've stated previously)...is beyond the lonely, dark, passages inside Collinwood Manor.
Nothing is as it seems here.
I shall, in my opinion, want to see Barnabas. Or Josette. Or Angélique Bouchard Collins. And yet, she was a vampire...and a witch...
...And his lover...and his wife.
I know I was related to her by birth.
Because of my visions of life, death, and the future, how can my prescience dominated my world. No one knew of my visions...
...Until I met Burke Devlin.
He didn't yell at me.
He was very curious about me.
And of how I fitted into the Collinsport story, as if supernatural forces were inside me, dragging me into the abyss.
And how I, in my lonely heart, had had feelings for some one who was dangerous to be around. And who had had spent time in prison on the word of Roger Collins in Court. Yet, deep in my soul, Burke didn't murder anyone he didn't like; Burke wanted to make his own fortune. And Roger ruined his life.
As I relate this long story, Burke wanted every member of the Stoddard/Collins family to suffer.
Except for one person he loved like his own son, David Collins who he called "Davey", since he knew David's Mother, who left him under mysterious circumstances...which is yet another tale that hasn't been told yet...
