Maggie Evans smiled.

"Pop, are you happy?", she asked her father.

"Yes, Maggie". He kissed his daughter. Then he sat down at the first table, "I'll have the stew...herb bread, and coffee, please".

"Sure", she said.

And wrote down the order with her pen in her right hand.

***

The door opened.

Carolyn Stoddard arrived with a look of angst on her face.

Her hair was messed up.

Nothing seemed right for her.

And, while the lights in the spacious foyer, glimmered, she strode with a renewed purpose to the seats that were covered in a psychedelic coverings, that mirrored the framed paintings of art from America, Canada, and Europe...And the UK.

Maggie wore a blue waitress dress.

Her black stockings were new; her shoes were new.

Her red lipstick glowed on her mouth.

When she noticed Carolyn there was a coldness to her that was a symptom of her breakup with Joe last year, because of her friendship with Burke Devlin.

***

"Hi, Carolyn. How're...?", she asked.

But she was cut off.

"It is important to me to discuss my future".

"Your future?", Maggie was confused.

"You ruined me".

"Joe believed in you, Carolyn. He thought he would marry you...have kids...and have a nice home in Maine...And yet...because you want to be free...he left. And, lastly, your family is weird. A normal man wants to work hard for his family...A woman also works for her family. And, together, there's a connection".

"I love Joe Haskell".

"I know that, Carolyn. He loves Maggie Evans now. It's about having a woman who is stable in Maine. And your mother is weird. She hasn't left her house in two decades".

"My Mother is fine".

"Is she fine?", Burke asked.

"Yes", she answered.

"I hope so, Carolyn. Good bye!".

*

"I hate to deal with this", Joe said.

His grey tie needed to be adjusted; his eyes flickered in the sunlight. His blue trousers were new; his black belt were also adjusted; his black shoes tapped the gravelly ground...as he made his way to the grooviest Inn in Collinsport.

*

"You're sure about...Joe!", Carolyn yelled.

"Carolyn".

"I thought...".

Joe kissed Maggie.

"I was hungry. And the new place is radical enough to succeed. Besides, I am working in town on the shipping and business side".

"That's good. I'm glad the promotion settles things".

"No, it didn't. My life has changed. I'm not embittered. I love the town. It feeds on love, romance, blood, hard work...".

Maggie shivered at the word.

"Don't talk of blood. There's been a lot of strange things happening at Widow's Hill...Windcliff Sanitarium...and Collinwood Manor".

"My home is not haunted".

"If you go up to the house, it's like Dracula came to Maine".

"Maine is free of Vampires...Werewolves...And nightmares. That's why Sheriff Patterson isn't in the mood for more funny business with anyone".

"How dare you...?", Carolyn begun.

And that was when she stopped talking to them.

And put on the Neil Diamond song 'Cherry, Cherry' hit song on the Jukebox, as Carolyn left them alone.
