"The real world is where the monsters are."

-Rick Riordan

Right now, you all live in a pleasant little boring world where nothing exciting or dangerous happens. Oh how I envy you. My life use to be just like your's. That is until I met a vampire bitch in a bar that tried to kill me. Everything went to hell in a hand basket after that. I learned that there's a lot of scary, dangerous things hidden in the world but there are also people who protect us from it all. They are called the ARK. They are made up of extraordinary people with extraordinary powers. Little did I know, I was one of those people. During my time in ARK, I experienced the best and worst moments of my life. I made friends and lost friends. I fell in love and made enemies that would haunt me forever. But most of all, I learned some very shocking secrets about my past that I could never dream of. If this has caught your interest, stay tuned cause shit's about to get crazy.

"Paxton, as your best friend, roommate, and brother from another mother, I absolutely refuse to let you spend your birthday cooped up in our apartment watching TV. We are going out and that's the end of it." Zane pressed, standing in front of the TV. I leaned over on the couch, trying to look around him.

"Dude this is my favorite part. Move." I muttered, waving him away. He rolled his eyes and pressed the eject button on the DVD player, causing the screen to turn blue. I sighed and leaned back. Covering my face with my hands I groaned, "Why are you trying to ruin my life, Zane?"

"Pax, I'm not the one ruining your life. I'm trying to preserve what little bit of it is left." My best friend and roommate's cockney British accent was quickly becoming grating. I glared at him in pretend anger. His trimmed brown hair was styled and he was dressed in a tight green t-shirt and faded jeans. He was dressed to go out where as I, on the other hand, was still in my red pajama pants. He picked up The Fast and The Furious movie box that sat on the coffee table and threw it onto my lap. "Come on, Pax. Its not like you haven't seen this movie a hundred times."

"Its my favorite movie. Right now you are standing in-between me and my favorite movie. Do you really want play this game?" I asked, cocking up an eyebrow.

"Please. I dominate this game." he scoffed, heading to the small kitchen of our apartment. "Get dressed. Dad's expecting us down at the pub."

"Ugh, I hate you so much right now." I groaned, sliding sideways until I was lying on the couch. A long fifteen minutes later, I was dressed in a pair of dark blue jeans and fresh white shirt. My dark hair was gelled back out of my face and my five o'clock shadow had been shaved away. Zane, who was playing Candy Crush, looked up from his phone and smirked.

"See, don't you feel better already." he asked as we headed out the door. I glared at him and quickly flipping him the bird. I locked the door behind us as we left. It was warm outside. The sky was clear and every star could be seen. "This is going to be fun. We're going to have a few drinks, a few laughs, maybe meet a few chicks"

"Whatever, you're buying." I grumbled, pulling my phone out of my back pocket.

"The drinks or the girls?" he asked. I laughed at this. "You know that's illegal right."

"Shut up." I chuckled. I looked down at my phone, checking to see if I had any messages. There were a few from some people from high school, each wishing me a happy birthday, but none were from the one I wanted. Zane gave me a understanding look as I put my phone back into my pocket with a sigh.

"Still no word from him, eh?" he asked. I stuck my thumbs in my pockets and continued walking down the sidewalk. Cars and taxis zoomed by us as we maneuvered around the pedestrians that looked longingly into the windows of shops.
